First of all, I found out I'm 1cm dilated today, but 0% effaced. My doctor didn't seem concerned enough to put me on bedrest. Can I go awhile on just 1cm still? I didn't think to ask at the time, but just figured if she wasn't concerned I shouldn't be.

Second, my Baby A, which is NOT the presenting baby, just turned transverse in the last couple of weeks. Anyone know any old wives tales, ANYTHING, that I can do to try and turn her before delivery? Since she is the bigger baby, my dr for sure doesn't want to go for a vaginal delivery since she's concerned Baby B won't open things up enough so that getting Baby A out breech could be an issue.

    Thanks!
    Renee

Cannot comment on the 2nd part, but I was 2 cm at 32 and 33 weeks, 3 cm at 34 and 35 weeks, 4 cm at 36 and 37 weeks, and 4 1/2 cm when I was induced. Never had contractions, didn't go into labor by myself ... so 1 cm at 34 weeks is pretty good! I was 1 cm at 37 weeks with my first, she came at 41w2d ...

I was 1 - 2 cm dilated for the last about 5 weeks with contractions. Then on Wed. I went into the hospital with the take your breath away and make you cry ones and only dilated to 2 - 3 cm. My contractions in the hospital went from 8 min apart to 3 min apart until sometime thursday. Then they were pretty much gone except for one here and there. They kept me for 2 days and sent me home.
With my singleton I stayed 4 cm dilated for 4 -6 weeks, i can't remember exactly how long, with no labour and they had to induce me at almost 41 weeks.
It depends on you and your body but if your doctor isn't worried about it then I wouldn't be.
I have no help on the second part as both my babies are head down and have been for about 3 weeks atleast.

I was dilated 1 cm around 32-33 weeks and nothing ever came of it for me. My baby A was breech the whole time but baby B was flip-flopping all around until the very end. I don't have any old wives tales for you, I hope baby a will go head down for you

I have no advice on the first half, as my doctors and I are in a disagreement about letting me go into labor NOW (because of pre-e and PTL) :aggressive:

But as far as trying to turn your baby....I do have something that my grandmother (who is very much a believer of wives tales and SWEARS by them) told me to do since my twin B is transverse, but the bigger baby. Laying on the ground, put pillows underneath your pelvis, and have your legs against the wall. The idea is to make baby "uncomfortable"(no this doesnt hurt the baby, I asked my OB) but requires them to change positions to get into a more comfortable spot. I did this to get one out of my ribs/side so I could breathe while sleeping, and so far, no more problems.

Hope this wives tale helps you. As crazy as some of these sound, I know at this point, some of us are DESPERATE just to have some relief. Hope everything else is going well with your pregnancy!

I did the same with my son: spent a lot of time laying at an angle with my feet way up above my head. Other wives tales: playing music closer to your cervix, putting ice packs at the TOP of your belly, guided imagery/meditation to try to encourage her to flip.

Something I tried to keep in mind: sometimes babies are not vertix for reasons you can't see on an u/s and it is in their best interest to be in the position they are in. Forcing the issue may not always be the best idea...sometimes they know what they're doing.

I can't help with the first part, but I think that is normal and not a worry unless you have regular contractions.

For the sexond part, my twins were transverse and footling breech for a while. At 30 weeks I did handstands in the pool and at my next visit both were head down :) I don't believe that the handstands had anything to do with it, but that was the only "old wives tale" that I tried. But I felt like I needed to try something.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like the 1cm is not a big deal, and I'm going to have to (carefully) try some of that stuff for turning the baby. I'm SOOOOOOOO scared of a C section!
