    Hi there:

I am new to this forum and to this site, but I wondered if I might post a question. I am currently 34.5 weeks with frat b/g twins. I went for an u/s today to check on their growth and Twin A is 5lbs9oz; while Twin B is 6lbs4oz. Should this discrepancy make me worry? He moves so much less, too. The tech said that everything looked fine to her, but I haven't heard from OB yet. Any advice for a first time worrier Mom?

    Many thanks!!

My twins were born with a good size difference. Destiny was 6 lbs 6 ounces and hayden was only 5 lbs 3 ounces....born at 38 weeks 1 day. Destiny hardly ever moved. In fact i went to l&d quite often worried about her lack of movement.
Both babies turned out fine in the end..but we also found out that twin transfusion had began....i was told that if i had waited another week to deliver hayden might now have made it. I would ask your ob what he thinks is going on, or it might just be naturla for you.

I would say that it sound normal to me. As long as they continue to grow they will be fine. Also, U/S are much less accurate at the stage that you are at.

that sounds like a normal size discrepancy to me - if you are worried call your ob...

I agree... seems like a normal discrepancy. Those are big weights for 34.5 weekers so I wouldn't be worried. If they were a lot smaller than maybe you might want to be concerned but they're not.

If you are worried i would call your ob to put your mind at rest but my 2 were delivered at 32.4 weeks and there was just over 1lbs difference between them. I think the U/S measurements can be off sometimes too x

I wouldn't worry...unless you are concerned over vaginal delivery... I know my docs wouldn't let me try vaginal if my baby B was too much bigger than baby A... my baby A went breech at 34 weeks anyway, so it didn't matter. In any case, they are b/g, and it is more likely that your boy will be bigger than your girl....mine was just 4 oz bigger, but I'm not sure what the u/s said.. after 35 weeks the u/s aren't so great for measuring size anyway.

It depends on the tech too. Sometimes if the lines aren't in the exact right spot, then you will get an off measurement. I know it's easy for me to say this, but I wouldn't worry. Your Dr will get a copy of the ultrasound report and should call you if they were concerned. They might ask for a higher level ultrasound. If you are still worried about it.... call your office and ask to speak to your dr's nurse (the dr isn't always available.) Explain your concerns and they can pull the file for the Dr and get you a faster response sometimes. I hope this helps! I'm sure that they are fine.

I just want to point out to the OP, this only happens in identical twins that share a placenta -- nothing for you to worry about. :)

I wouldn't worry much. This late in the pregnancy, it is completely normal to have a size difference. It is earlier in the pregnancy when there is a standard for how large they should be that it is a concern. Once you get to a certain point, it becomes more a matter of genetics. At 10 weeks, all babies should be about the same size -- but think of the wide variety of weights of babies born term (My 3 singletons were 8 lb 2 oz., 7 lb. 10 oz., and 6 lb. 12.5 oz.). The most important thing is that both continue to grow at a steady rate on their own curve. Unless there is a change and one baby stops growing, I wouldn't worry at all. Congratulations on your twins.
