33 weeks and 2 cm dilated

I need some reassurance, I'm 2 cm dilated and starting to efface according to my ob yesterday. Last week I was long and closed. I am not having contractions, and the babies are measuring well, almost 5 pounds a piece. She said there is nothing I can do, and if I do end up going into labor at this point, there is little they can do to stop it. I am off of work with instructions to keep my feet up.

Has anyone else been dilated this early and carried to term?

I would just take it easy. With my singleton, I know it's different than twins, I was 3cm dilated and 80% effaced at 37w and she wasn't born until 41w. I would just keep your feet up and try rest as much as possible.

 

You know, you can be 2 cm dialated forever! There are people who go into preterm labor and then end up having to be induced in the 38-40th week because they won't go into labor. I was 1 cm dialated from about 36 weeks on, but keep rested and feet up as much as possible! You are past a critical milestone in your babies' development! You've made it!! Just keep them baking as long as possible! If born now they'd have some NICU time, but they would survive!

 

Thanks for the replies. I am still freaking out though b/c when I just went to the restroom I had a ton of brown spotting mixed with ewcm (sorry, way tmi). Is this bloody show? I don't know whether just to wait the symptoms out as there is nothing the doctor can do anyway or give them a call. I don't want to be a worrywart, but I am so scared of going into labor this early.

You should definitely call your doctor if you're spotting. Good luck.

 

I was 1-1/2 cm dialated at about 31 weeks, got pulled out of work and put on moderate rest, I think by about 34 weeks I was 2 cm. I carried till my water broke at 37-1/2 weeks, still 2 cm dialted, stayed that way till they started pitocin to move things along, and then STILL barely dialated! Like 1 cm every 2 hours! So just rest a little, do what your ob says, you can stay at 2 for a LONG time!
