My twin boys were born at 34 4/7 and they were both in the NICU for 16 days! You do NOT want them early!! My boys were both 5lb 3oz...so they were good size and still had to be on CPAP for 12hrs and then had to learn how to eat which took forever. The NICU dr told us they don't get the sucking relfex until 36 weeks. Trust me I know you're miserable, but it's even more miserable not being able to take your babies home with you. Do whatever you can to keep them in!! :)

35 weekers here, no NICU but did go to Level 2 nursery for 24 and 30 hours for temp control. No oxygen needs. My girly had/has some jaundice issues and some weight issues for both. He was 4lb 9oz and went to 3lb 13oz came home at 4.02lbs. She was 4lb 3 oz and went to 3lb 9 oz came home at 3lb 12 oz.

Mine were born at 33 wks 1 day and were 4 lbs 3 oz and 5 lbs 5 oz. They were in the NICU for 14 and 17 days respectively. They didn't have any breathing problems though just a little jaundice and had to learn how to eat. I did have the steroid shots both at 24 weeks and again in the days before delivery. The learning to eat was frustrating, especially since it was our bigger boy who couldn't get the hang of it.

It really does depend on each baby. During our NICU stay we saw full term 8 lb babies in there for several weeks.

35 weeks, 1 day here. One was in for 1 day until her blood sugars evened out and the other was in for 11 days to learn to eat. Both could breathe just fine and had no other problems. Even though mine were only in for minor issues, it was still one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. All the worrying is totally worth it though.

eta: My cousin was born full term and weighed over 8 pounds and was in for 3 days because he was born with RSV, so anything can happen.

Mine were born ay 34w 2d. John stayed in for 3 weeks, Christopher 51/2. They were intebated for a day, on cpap, then nasal cannula. They had jaundice and took 2 weeks to hold their temp. Then came reflux and the breathing spells for Chris--ahh (one spell buys 5 days in the nicu). They're growing just fine now and are absolutely healthy, but the nicu time was hard!!! I cried pretty much on a daily basis---so try to keep those babies in as long as possible. Every day means more development.

    PS--Every baby is completely different!!

35 weeks exactly, and they were both in NICU for 3 wks. They were so tiny, and had a hard time getting strong enough on their own, but otherwise perfect! It's very difficult loving on your babies in the hospital, but hang in there!

My boys were born at 35 weeks 4 days and only one had NICU time. He actually had to be shipped to a hospital 40 minutes away because the hospital I delivered at didn't have a NICU. I was so happy to have reached the 35 week mark because that meant I could deliver at this hospital (35 weeks is the earliest they'll deliver.) I never thought my babies would need NICU time if they made it to 35 weeks (shows how much I knew) He spent 8 days there...

Every baby is different, but I was really curious when I was preg. too.

The boys were born at 33wks 1day at 3lbs 3ozs and 3lbs 11ozs. They were there for 1 month. Actually came home on the day my csection was scheduled for! Jaundice and feeding issues along with bradys and apneas (forgetting to breathe). They came home after they were a little over 4lbs.

FWIW we shared a room with a 40 weeks baby and he was there for a week (over 9lbs). Don't know why though.

35 weeks two days. Kristina was 6lbs .02 oz, and Lauren was 6lbs .04oz. They were in for 7 days. Feeding was an issue at first, and Lauren was monitored for a bit after chocking on her food. Both required a bit of air at birth but nothing major. Its hard and painful keeping them in, but the longer the better.

Both babies spent 10 days in NICU as growers and feeders after being born at 33.5 weeks. They were 5.2 and 5.4.

Mine were 34w1d and were growers/feeders...no medical or breathing problems, etc. They were there for 17 days each. They did have some issues with too many heart/breath decels, but nothing they didn't overcome.

Mine arrived at 35 weeks exactly.
AJ was 5lb5oz and spent 18 hours in NICU due to distress during delivery (and he couldn't figure out how to eat and breathe at the same time!) He will be 12 weeks tomorrow and weighs in the 14-lb range, and is happy and healthy... so, no complications from being a preemie!!
Benny was 4lb13oz, and did not require any NICU time. Now, he is the one with the reflux, colic, eczema...

    34w6d = 15 days NICU for both - weighed 4.4 and 4.14

My girls were feeders and growers. It took a long time to learn to eat but just around 37w, threatened with an NG tube again, the light went on and they ate!

My girls were delivered at 35 weeks 3 days. Ainsley was in the NICU for 9 days due to respiratory distress. She was on the ventilator for 3-4 days of that. Sierra was only 3 lbs 15 oz but didn't go to the NICU. She was perfectly healthy and was sent to the Special Care Nursery for 7 days until she proved that she could eat and gain weight consistently.
