Im 30wks 2dys wth ident girls. I`ve been having lots of pressure and an increase in vaginal discharge. I went to the doctor thurs only for her to admitt me. She said my cervix was very soft and baby A`s head was down really low. She put me on bedrest and two different meds. The nurse that checked me before i left ssid my cervix was about a finger and very soft. Im hoping i`ll make it past 34wks with limited bedrest because i have a 2 1/2yr old that im home with all day by myself. So theres no way i could be in bed all day.
Is it possible for me to go at least 4 to 6 more weeks being on my feet partially during the day and on bedrest?

I don't know how long you can go, but I am in the exact same position as you. I am 29 w 6 days and was put on bed rest today. My cervix is soft and I am 1 cm dilated... but the u/s showed it is nice and long (???). My OBGYN seems very confident that, while it may make me crazy to be on bed rest for 6+ more weeks, there is no reason I can't make it 6+more weeks... provided I take it easy. So, while I can't offer an example of someone who made it, I'll be here cheering you on. It will be nice to go through this with someone else.

    Best of luck.

    Hi,
I am also 29 weeks and have recently had a pv bleed and am now on bedrest.
Actually, I am emailing from the hospital! I have been admitted for two days for observation. I expect to go home tomorrow though b/c both babies are doing fine.
This is my second pregnancy, as I have a little girl. And like DblStuffOreo, they also told me that my 1cm dilated but the cervix is very long. The 1cm dilation is not as worrisome according to my doctor b/c many women can have soft cervix plus small diatation after having delivered vaginally and I had my daughter naturally almost 2 years ago. It is good to have a long cervix she said.

Are either of you on terbutaline? Just wondering.

Good luck to the three of us!

    MapleMom,

I got a shot of terbutaline and it did absolutely NOTHING to slow my contractions - funny since I normally have no tolerance for muscle relaxers/pain killers. The pill may be different, though. Since my uterus did not cooperate with the terbutaline, I was simply ordered to quit work, rest and drink water and I was scheduled for more observation. Needless to say, my uterus has a bad reputation in perinatal assessment, but following the other instructions has seemed to work so far. I am still having contractions, but they are nowhere near as routine as they were. Next US to check cervical length is 4/8.

    Hi Amy,

I am actually glad to hear that b/c I thought I was going crazy since the terb does not completely eliminate the BH...it's more like it takes the bite out of them. I thought something was wrong with me b/c I thought the terb would get rid of them but now I know better.

I am home now and no longer working either. but I am still on the terb every four hours and yes, am pushing fluids. How much do you aim to drink a day?

This may also sound weird but my BH are more frequent in the evening...I've read one other person who said she found this to be true. Nights -don't feel a thing. Morning - not so much....but my late afternoon and evening, they come on stronger. do you have a similar experience?

    Good luck to us!

Nope - you're not crazy. Just a fun challenge for your docs, like me. Also like you, my contractions get worse in the evening; sometimes much worse. In the morning, I can't tell if it is a BH or the kiddos whomping on me - in fact the day I got the terb shot, I had no idea I was contracting. In the evening, however, the difference between the two is obvious. I also notice that certain situations make them worse. DH has me set up in the living room so I can look out the window. Yesterday, I had to sit here while a rabbit ate the flowers he planted at me. Throwing my slippers at the window and yelling did nothing to scare the rabbit, but getting riled up over the rabbit caused contractions. Today, I am going to try to ignore the local fauna.

I don't know how much I drink per day, but I would say I re-fill the Brita pitcher at least 3 to 4 times per day. I find that I am generally thirsty (common in Arizona) so drinking isn't really a problem for me. I do tend to drink a ton of water and I can tolerate a good amount of lemonade, but everything else (root beer, fruit juice, etc.) lacks appeal. DH has tried to spice up my water by adding lemon, cucumbers, mint, and berries.

Keep plugging along. You're doing great.
