I had my 30 week and 3 day ultrasound yesterday, and the babies are looking great! They're 3.3 and 3.5 lbs respectively, practicing their breathing and looking like they should. Baby A is still breech, and dancing a jig on my cervix, and Baby B is head down, but his body is sort of sideways across my ribcage (nice break from Baby A breaking my ribs on the right for a while  )

Anyway, I have a couple of questions..

    1) The babies are gaining weight, but I am not, despite eating like crazy. Is it normal for your weight gain to slow down later on? I thought I would be gaining about a lb a week?

    2) My cervix shortened from 3.5 cm to 2.3 cm in one week. The peri was not overly concerned but told me I should spend some more time with my feet up every day to help prevent PTL. Does this sound like a normal time for the cervix to be shortening? Is it likely to shorten more very quickly? How much activity is too much?

I know these are all questions for my dr. too, but if you had any information/stories you'd like to share, I'd be grateful!

I just had my 30 ultrasound on Friday and I was worried about the weight thing too. I've lost 9 lbs in the last 6 weeks, but the babies are still gaining well so my OB said it's not a problem. He said that as long at the babies are gaining weight and I'm feeling lots of movement, not to worry about my weight.

I don't know much about the cervix issue since mine was still really long, but the tech did tell me that I was done with the cervical checks because from this point on they expect to see it shorten. Hopefully someone else will have a better answer for you.

YAY for a great appointment and being 30 weeks!! :clapping:

I am not sure about the cervix issue, but as for the weight - I didn't gain barely anything in my final few weeks. The babies continued to grow well, but I didn't :)

Jen, I'm glad the little ones are doing so well!!!! I'm not sure about your cervix question, but as for the weight gain, I think if there was a problem your doctor would have showed his concern. Just keep your feet up and hang in there lady.

Everything sounds right. I haven't gained much either and my Dr.s don't even check my cervix anymore after 29 weeks. They said that it will start to shorten on it's own and that if nothing "major" hasn't happened before 30 weeks, they don't worry too much about it.

I gained about 1/2 lbs per week and mine were above average. They were 4lbs5oz and 4lbs6oz at 30 weeks and lower 6lbs range at 34 weeks, born close to 8 at 38w, so about 1/2lbs per week from 30 weeks onwards (a little less before). They basically grew at the same rate as my singleton who was born 3 weeks later (41w) and weighed 9lbs2oz (1 1/2 lbs more than the twins). I gained most of my weight in the last 4 weeks, I hardly gained in the beginning ... I think the weight gain will start the next couple of weeks! I would take it easy, rest as much as you can ... put your feet up multiple times a day, etc.

Does anyone else find it weird that Jen's ticker says 30w5d only 44 to go and dowlinal's (sorry I don't know your name) says 30w6d w/54 days to go??? Wonder why that is?

Sorry, just had to point that out!

I am scheduled for a repeat c-section on June 8th so that's where the 54 days in my ticker comes from.

And my doctor said she would induce me at 37 weeks, so that's where my date comes from! May 29th.

I almost picked May 29th as the day of my c-section. I was debating btw May 29th and June 8th for the longest time and then decided to go with the later date.

Thanks for clearing that up ladies.....I was SO confused. I didn't realize that you could change the "days to go" to fit a certain date.

Both of you are SO close to holding your babies, good luck with everything and take care.

I didn't really question my doctor when they said 37 weeks.. but now that I have done some reading, I might ask to see what they do if everything still looks healthy at that point and let it go longer. I think it's a slightly different approach here in Canada, they don't really schedule c-sections ahead of time, just see how things progress and get them out when they think it's necessary. So May 29th is super flexible.. but the closer I get to it, I am sure I'll want them out by then  . It would be great if I could get to 38, but my doctor said with mono-di twins the placentas often start to deteriorate by then. We'll see how it goes.

As for the weight and cervix issues.. I talked to my dr, and she was not concerned on either front.. she said that especially because there's no funneling, everything is probably just fine, and it's normal for it to start to thin.. but still to take it easy!

My OB initally wanted 37 weeks, but my oldest graduates from pre-school on June 5th so I got him to let me try and make it to the following Monday. I didn't schedule my first two c-sections. The first was an emergency and the second time I tried to VBAC, but at 39 1/2 weeks I ended up having to have a repeat c-section. This time, they had me schedule it early because it's twins and they wanted to make sure that the hospital had all of the extra staff ready to go.

I'm starting to freak out a bit at the idea of how close this all could be. When the ultrasound tech told me that at 34 weeks they don't even try to stop labor, I almost hyperventilated. I can't even imagine these guys arriving in 3 weeks. :shok:
