We took the boys in today for their 3 year checkup. Daniel fussed a bit but calmed down, but Joshua screamed and cried the whole time. He was handing me his clothes telling me put on shirt and everything else. I felt like it was a waste of time going since we couldn't really have a decent conversation with the doctor. Does anyone else have this problem at the doctors office?

My 3 year old did cry a bit during her check up. That is totally unlike her too, so it must be somewhat normal for this age.

mine don't cry. and we saw a new dr and were at a new practice for the 3 yr old well visit. I usually rehearse with them the day before, letting them know what's going to happen (dr will listen to your chest and back, and look in your ears, etc) and we practice with a baby doll or animal and our dr kit. then sometimes when they are ill, I will let them take a stuffed animal w/ them for comfort.

Mine freaked out at his 2 year visit. He totally refused to get on the scale even, it was awful.

i thought they were prepared. we talked about it all day and for over a week they've wanted to watch blue's clues where blue goes to the doctor. :(

Mine are ok at the doctor, though they ask me a million times before we go 'no needles?' , 'no shots?' They also confirm with the nurse and doctor first thing. Our last visits have been sick visits, but if they need shots next time, we'll have problems.

Dentist totally different story, My SON SCREAMS the whole time.

Mine threw fits at their 2-year but were remarkably calm and cooperative for their 3-year. Both the nurse and doctor said something about them being SO quiet and I got the impression that it's not expected at this age. Of course, they thoroughly enjoyed peeing in a cup and we got to do that right off the bat so they were rather intrigued after that point.

Mine actually didn't cry during their 3-year checkup, but I was pleasantly surprised, as they screamed their heads off at the 2-year. For whatever reason, they were OK at the 3-year, and even answered the doctor's questions when he spoke to them directly, which they had never done before. They did cry during the shots, but calmed down pretty quickly when the shots were over.

Last night I had to take one of my children to the doc, on the way they were thanking me for taking them. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself and when I went to pick up my other child at my mom's I told her and we had a chuckle too because of what had happened before. One year and one year only we had a major issue and it is not because we go to the docs often because last night was the first time we had ever gone for anything besides well visits. Anyway, this same child who last night was thanking me, several years ago would not go into the office. I am talking laid down in the middle of the parking lot and was not going to go in. The whole appointment was torture. I can't remember now how many years ago it was but it very well could have been our 3 year check up. It was absolutely horrible!!!! The good news was it was only that one year (as is evident by last night's continuous appreciation!).
