My twins will be 10 weeks on Monday and are still going every 2.5 to 3 hours eating. The problem is that they often don't finish the 3.5 ounce bottle without falling asleep. They then wake up sooner wanting to eat again. They are both on Similac Sensitive with rice starch so its thicker. When should we expect them to go longer between eating?

Mine are still eating every 3 hours during the day (sometimes it is formula and sometimes solids now though). They did start going longer stretches at night at about 5 months. They do get much faster at eating though, so that helps. Are you using a faster flow nipple since they have thicker formula?

My two ate every 3 hours until they were about 8 months old. I was also going to suggest trying making the hole in the nipple a little bigger so that they don't have to work so hard at getting it out.

My girls had to eat something every 3 hours for the entire first year. (During the day only!) Now that I think about it, they still pretty much eat every 2 - 3 hours, just it's not as noticeable now b/c they feed themselves. Once mine started solids it would be a bottle or a solid every 3 hours, because mine won't take very much at one sitting.

Like Aimee, mine ate every 3 hours during the day during the FY. Around 2 months, they started going longer overnight until 2.5 months when they started STTN.

Mine never surpassed an every 3 hour feeding except a night after about 6 months. Now they still dont go more than 2-3 hours without some kind of food whether its a meal or a snack during the day.

Hello, I'm a lurker here. My twins were eating every 3 - 4 hours at 6 months. They just did that themselves. Since I've started them on solids, they have stretched out their feedings to 4 hours pretty much all the time. I also give them 7 - 8 ounces per bottle. As far as your baby sleeping when feeding. it's the age, but one thing you can do is wake them up if they fall asleep. By doing that, you are keeping them from relying on the bottle to sleep (when they are older, that can become a problem when you try to get them to sleep at night), but also you don't want them going in to a deeper night sleep during the day. I was taught to feed them every 3 hours or earlier if they want to, but no later than 3 hours until 6 months old or until they start their solids. At night at around 2 - 2 1/2 months old, you can start stretching out the night time feedings by distracting them and trying to persuade them to rest a little longer before eating. eventually they will hold off and start sleeping longer at night between feedings. Doing that will also help keep them more awake during their daytime feedings.

    it worked well for me.

Ummm...maybe never, at least during the day. My boys never went more than 2.5 or 3 hours during the day. BUT they went 12 hours at night by 12 weeks. Frequent eating during the day isn't such a bad thing if it means more sleep at night! Even now, at almost 2, they need frequent food to keep them cheerful. Come to think of it, my husband is the same way! Try not to push them - they'll fall into their own pattern.

My girls eat every 3 hours. The have been sttn for a while, but can't go longer than 3-3.5 hours during the day.

Wow, we are working to get our babies to eat every 3 hours... they were eating every 4 24 hours a day. Now that the doctor said they can sleep, and they DO, we are trying to get them to feed every 3 hours to avoid 3AM cluster feeding.

Talk to your pediatrician to see if you can increase the amount they eat each feeding. Ours are almost 12 weeks, born at 35.5 weeks and were already eating 4 oz by 8 weeks.

My twins are only a couple weeks older than yours and mine just started staying awake a little more, but they still sleep most of the day. I usually don't have too many problems with keeping them awake to feed (because they continue to suck and finish their bottles, even when falling asleep) but as I said they sjust started staying awake more in the last 2 weeks. . .Mine are also eating every 3 hours during the day and just started sleeping for one 5 hour block at night! YEAH! Good Luck!
