    Hi,

I am going on a three hour drive with the kids tomorrow and wondered when I should go - during nap time or at night? Or, maybe some other time? What has worked for you guys? Thanks so much.

I'd go right after lunch. That way they can enjoy being in the car for a bit and about the time they get sick of it, they'll be falling asleep! I'd also take their lovies to give them at their normal nap time. Have fun!

:good: That's when I would go too. So they won't be hungry and they might fall asleep. It's not that long of a drive and if it's at night they might be really tired and more whiney.

Three hours should be a breeeze!! I think naptime is a good time - well, about an hour before perhaps!

We just went on a 3.5 hour drive but had to leave early in the morning because of time constraints. It worked out fairly well, but we had to stop about halfway there for them to get out and run around for a while. On the way home we left right after lunch and it worked PERFECT! They were awake for 30 - 45 minutes and then they napped until we got home.

Just want to chime in and agree - after lunch. Now that they are older and our van is old (read: dirty), I leave 30 min before lunch, pick up lunch for them to eat in their seats (nuggets and apple dippers - minus the dip), then they nap. I can get in a 4 hour trip with little or no fuss this way. Good luck!

For a three hour drive, I would attempt nap time. Night is good for longer drives. :)

I would leave right after lunch too, that way they will nap most of the time! Have a safe trip :)

i drive to visit my family pretty regularly, it's 3.5 hrs. When going, I leave right after dinner, they watch teh dvd player for about half hour then fall asleep. it works perfectly. Coming home i don't have the luxury and we leave right after lunch. Usually they watch a movie for a while, sleep for a while then scream for a while. i really suggest going at night!!

With my 2.5 yr old, he won't sleep in the car so it won't matter as far as tthat goes but he will get cranky if he is tired. So I always left first thing after bfast so as we got there it was getting to be naptime or left right after he got up from his nap and that way we would be there shortly before bedtime and then we would still have a few minutes to set up his bed etc.
