we have been on a solid 4 bottle schedule for months now, but of course now they want to change things up. DD and DS have been flat out refusing the third bottle of the day at around 3. they will not even consider drinking it and it is making me completely nutso  . i even tried reducing solids to see if that would make them more interested, but no dice. i don't suspect teething because DS just finished his first round and DD doesn't have much trouble when getting new choppers... and DDs reflux is well under control, knock wood.

sooooo, i am going to try to drop down to 3 bottles, but i am so worried about it. i am pretty sure that i can get around 24 oz into them with 3 bottles, so that should be enough, right? my feeding guide from my pedi said that anything over 16 oz is fine, but that just seems like way too little. my plan is to try to make their solids really count and offer sippies of formula with their meals and make sure that they have water available through the day so they don't get dehydrated(we are currently in new mexico and it is really dry here).

i can't wait until we can be done with bottles all together, feeding time has always been a struggle around here. i was hoping it would get easier as they got older, but no such luck...

I think you're fine. The older they get, the lower that intake of ozs of milk/formula. By 9 months old, my boys were down to three bottles, three meals, and two snacks. I remember from 9 months on (even when transitioning to whole milk after a year old), the range was 16-24 oz. Remember, if you use any formula to make their food/oatmeal/cereal that counts too.... Good luck...I loved when they dropped to 3 bottles, it was such freedom.

Sounds to me like they are definitely trying to drop a bottle. That's about the age my older DS did it. What I did was offer 3 meals a day and then the 3 bottles in the middle (right before each nap and then again at bedtime). As they get closer to the age of one you will eventually replace the bottles with a snack and probably some milk in a cup. Good luck with the transition! It's always hard to change things up!

If they are giving you signs telling you they're ready for three bottles instead of four, I say go for it. I wish we were in the same boat as you. We are currently on 4 solid meals 3 snacks and still on 5 bottles a day [at 5-7 oz],

    Interesting......

My Lo's are doing the same thing with their 3pm bottle. Im lucky if they will do 4 oz. I was worried too. I thought I was giving them to many solids. I will give it another week or so and see what they do.

Keep us posted on this. Our Lo's are around the same age too.

I am in the same situation and I decided to drop the mid-afternoon bottle today. Instead, I added a snack in and it went over very well. I can't wait to get rid of my bottles here too.

    I dropped to 3 too!
My dd loves her bottles, she gets so happy when she sees one I felt bad taking one away (she is not hungry and does very well with solids)

ds....ohhh.. I can't wait to give his bottles up! If I give him "dinner" past 4 pm he won't even drink his night bottle...

I always put more formula (powder scoop) on his cereal in the morning to make up for what ever he does not drink during the day.

what do you give them for snacks?

Sounds good! My older daughter was on 3 bottles around that time too, but she was a piggy and drinking 3 8 oz bottles consistently! :p
