I’m 29w3d and we had our appointment yesterday. Our baby girls (di-di) are doing fantastic. Baby A is 2.11lbs, hb 160, measuring 28w5d and is breech. Baby B is 2.15lbs, hb 140, measuring 29w0d and is transverse. My cervix is 3.51 cm, which is great too.

When I went upstairs to talk with the dr. however, my bp was high (130/100) so they had me lay down and re-take a few minutes later and it did lower (104/70). I also have trace amounts of protein in my urine. I know both can be “normal” for twins and that it can also be the start of pre-e. Instead of our normal 2 week appt she wants to see me back next week. I’m VERY thankful that she’s keeping an eye on it. We have a 4 y/o that was induced a week early due to pre-e, so she says because of my “history” we have to keep a close eye on it.

All along she’s said no bed rest necessary and work as much as long as I want to (office job). Yesterday I was told I need to rest more and that she may or may not give me a choice about bed rest pretty soon. I was kind of taken off guard, even though I know it’s possible. She said hospital bed rest and I said, couldn’t I do that at home. She said maybe, but that if something happened, by the time I got to the hospital it wouldn’t be good for the babies, so I’m a little freaked out too now. I just can’t imagine being in the hospital for so long laying around knowing my kiddo is at home. Now, I say that knowing that it’s WAY better for me to be inconvenienced than it is to have babies born too early and in the NICU – I’ll obviously do whatever she says so my babies are taken care of.

I guess I’m just venting / sharing so I have someone to talk to. As stupid as it sounds, I just really never thought I’d have problems…”not me” syndrome I guess.

The protein in urine…is that reversible? Once it starts does it continue or can it correct itself?

I have a meeting today to speak with my managers about what we can do – if I can work from home a few days or afternoons or what my options are. Cross your fingers that the conversation goes well!

    Thanks for listening to me!

yes the protein in a dipped urine can vary from sample to sample, that's why a 24 hour urine is most accurate. i also had trace to 1+ protein in my urine from about 24 weeks on, and bp's started going up around 28 wks but nothing ever came of it. i was threatened with bedrest, and next visit, my bp's were better. hope it all works out for you!

 I started showing protein around the same time. My BP is always a bit high so they were very liberal with how high it would fluctuate to and I could always bring it down some by relaxing/meditating/laying on side, etc. I too had an office job and worked up until the Monday before I was admitted on Tues for hospital bedrest. I delivered that Saturday (induced on Thurs) because my body was so toxic.

I had very supportive and understanding managers who let me work from home a couple days per week from week 30-34. Hindsight is 20/20 and if I had it to do over again, I would have stopped going into the office altogether before it was critical enough to be put on bedrest. Of course it's easy to say that now in retrospect. At the time, I couldn't imagine giving up my leave to lay in bed alone and the income as well. But those weeks after my babies were born were so difficult I would have traded in a second.

I don't know how hard things were for you after having pree with your last pregnancy, but for me I had a hard time recovering. Being on the mag in the hospital was awful and I had to be put on BP meds in order to be discharged and they made me feel terrible. They wouldn't let me off the meds for months :(

I wish I had known more then. Everything worked out in the end and we are all healthy and for that I am very thankful. I just wish it could have all been avoided. I hope things go well for you and your babies.

Good luck with your conversation with your managers today. We'll be thinking of you and wishing you luck.

As for the blood pressure/bed rest, let's hope that your doctor was giving you the worst case scenario and that none of it comes true. It sounds like your doctor is being very cautious with you and taking every precaution necessary to make sure that all three of you are doing well. I'm sure you doctor would rather give you this scenario now and let you get comfortable with a possibility rather than spring it on you later. But,it does seem he is sending you a clear message to start taking it easy now.

Although we all like to have the "not me" mentality, try not to think of it that way. If you do go on bed rest it's not a bad thing, it's just a change of plans. Remember, if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.

BTW, your babies stats look great! Congratulations, momma and way to grow girls!

Having that worry really niggles at you. I am in the same situation with protein showing from about 20 weeks and bp all over the place. I also had pre-e in a previous pregnancy. But I am now at 36 weeks and still going. My feet look like footballs and I am very careful in what I choose to do. Take time to rest and drink loads. Monitor yourself. Seems to be working for me! Good Luck

Thanks ladies :friends: My talk with my managers went really well - they themselves were extremely receptive. I said something about working from home for a few afternoons last week and in response they suggested to just work at home all next week. However, they also need to run it by HR so it's kind of our of their hands. I'm waiting with my fingers crossed to see what HR says on Monday.

DblStuff, you're right! I'm sure God got a good chuckle :)

So aggravational that these decisions have to be run by HR... I know so many other companies that are the same...even when the managers directly affected by it are totally fine with someone working from home HR still has the final say. Annoying. Hope you get someone compassionate in HR that okays it! And hopefully your BP will be better next week!
