OKAY here the stats of my 29 1/2 weeks appt with the Peri today, I was wondering if anybody had same trends and what it lead to:

    Baby A (boy): 2.7 lbs - butt down - 26 percentile[:|]
    Baby B (girl): 3.1 lbs - head down - 52 percentile[:)]

so the trend is still boy behind girl...Peri thinks it's because of location of placenta, harder to get the food to the boy, nothing we can do.

of course they say not to worry, as long as he keeps going and he showed us the growth curves of both babies, etc., so it is reassuring. he suggests I do try to eat more in between meals and also have ensure protein drinks morning and evening.

I am concerned, I know I shouldn't be...also baby boy turned but Peri said there is plenty of time for him to turn head down again. but we also need him to catch up a lot to the girl so my OB will do a vaginal birth, if not, it will be c-section.
if everything continues in the trend it is now, Peri thinks we'll have to get the babies out by 37 weeks, if they don't come naturally by then. I saw my OB this morning, so she does not have those numbers yet, I'll ask her at my next appt.

so I try not to worry, he's growing so that's good. and let's say I make it to 37 weeks, that is already great for twins, right?[bl]

oh and my Peri tries to get the ensure approved through my insurance so they pay for it, it's so expensive. for 6 bottles it's $10, and that will last only 3 days! so I am waiting on the response on that.

okay that's the update so far.....

Although he is smaller the dr's don't seem too concerned. The ensure should help increase the caloric and protein intake for your babies. Hang in there, and try not to worry too much.

Sounds as if you had a decent appt. Yes, my boy was butt down and twin A and my daughter was either head down or transverse the entire pregnancy! I hope you make it until 37 weeks! :clapping: Sounds like some good weights so far!

Hang in there! Hope your little boy growths even more! You seem to have a very nice and caring perinatalogist, it's so important.

Your babies weights sound great... I just found out my Baby a is 3lbs 4oz, baby B is 3 lb's at 31 weeks. I say keep up the good work :)

Those are good weights I think. My girl has always been smaller than my boy and my docs aren't concerned (they are fraternal...different people who will grow differently). At 29 weeks 5 days my ultrasound had my girl at 3 pound and boy at 3 pounds 8 ounces, so there is definitely a difference (and that has persisted). Also, those percentiles are based on singletons not twins, so keep that in mind. I think as long as your doctors feel things are on track, that is reassuring.

My twin A measured behind twin B from the very first u/s. That gap grew as the pregnancy progressed but she continued to grow so all they did was watch her. I had growth u/s every four weeks unil 30 weeks then every two weeks. They both flipped all over the place until the very end so it is possible that A will go head down 10 times before you deliver! I went to 37w 5d. I had decided at my 35 week appt that I'd go ahead with a csec since at that growth u/s A was estimated at 4lbs1oz and B was est at 7lbs. My biggest baby was 8lbs 6oz but I didn't want to risk a vag delivery with B being so much bigger. At birth A was 6lbs 2oz and B was 8lbs 3oz! Both super healthy. Eat tons of protien (the ensure/boost will help with that) rest as much as possible so you aren't burning extra calories and drink more water than you think you can stand. Try to stay positive!

    thank you all so much!

it is reassuring reading all your information, it is very common though, I am happy to have such a great peri, really.....and I don't want anything to take my pre-joy away from me, I do not want to worry, so I won't, it's all good.
I have been pretty spoiled in my pregnancy and I know everyting will continue to go well......

unfortunately, the ensure won't be covered through my insurance :(, so I might as well look for boost, I think that's a bit cheaper, and it's pretty much the same, I think.

You can also try those South Beach Diet nutrition bars; they are really yummy and pack in a lot of calories and protein. I ate lots of those trying to beef up my tiny babies. At least you know they're fraternal so no TTTS risk; they'll be fine and you're doing great! Hang in there mama! :hug99:

First of all, why would the boy be the same size as the girl? They're different people. If he's staying on the same growth curve that he's been on, he's growing normally and shouldn't be expected to "catch up" to his sister.

Think of it this way... One of my friends had two singletons two years apart and her boy was born 6 pounds 1 ounce at 42 weeks while the girl was born 8 pounds 2 ounces at 36.5 weeks. If she'd carried them together, the girl would have been noticeably larger than the boy, right? It wouldn't indicate a problem unless he'd been trucking along at a higher percentile and then started dropping as the pregnancy progressed.

My Baby A (girl) has been smaller the whole time. As long as she is still gaining at an acceptable rate, my OB isn't too worried. Also, she was breech almost the entire time and just flipped head down last week. My OB said that even though my babies are a bit discordant in growth, they still were close enough in weight at this point to do vaginal if everything else is okay by then.

My baby B was consistently 2 weeks ahead of my baby A. He is still a pound bigger than baby A at 3 monhs of age... it's just genetics in our case. I'm sure it's nothing to really worry about right now. :)

Alexa, looks like you and I are in the same boat. Baby A weighed 2.5lbs at 29+w u/s, and baby B 3.5lbs. I've been upped to weekly ob appts, 2x a week NST, and biweekly u/s. I had the steriod shots last week, incase the do have to deliver early. My ob has put me in a higher risk category now so I'm on modified bedrest. I think I'm going to try the ensure/boost drinks as well. That sounds like a good idea.

Also, even though they are fraternal, my u/s show only 1 placenta, so we know that it's a fused placenta. Do you know if that is the same case with you??
