Well both babies looked good today. Both are breech and kicking the fire out of my bladder. LOL The only concern that the u/s tech showed was that Baby A (girl) was weighing 2 lbs and that Baby B (boy) was wighing 2lbs 9oz. She was in the 34 percentile for weight and he was in the 67 percentile. She seemed to be a little worried about the girl's weight. Should this be something I should worry about? She stated that usually when they get to be a pound apart the doctor will start talking about going ahead and taking the babies. I can't forsee myself having these babies before 32 weeks but now I am freaked out that I should of or can be doing something different to get baby A to start gaining weight to catch up to her brother. And they are not even sharing a placenta.

Any thoughts from anyone that might have gone through this???

My boy/girl twins were 1.5lbs apart at birth. Their placentas had fused by 20 weeks, which I think can add to the weight differences. Jake didn't start falling behind in u/s weights until about 32 weeks. And honestly, they were way off on him at birth, we thought he was bigger by 1/2lb. I wouldn't worry too much yet, drink your water, eat your protein, protein shakes(Boost,Ensure) are great for twin pregnancies. U/S weights are just estimates, I would only start to worry if that difference had increased by a lot on your next u/s. She could have her growth spurt this time around! [IMG]

I agree with Becky. My twins were a whole pound difference too at birth and my u/s tech swore they were the same size. My OB was a little surprised when he lifted him up and there was my shrimpy 5lb full term baby! He was fine and he is actually 3 lbs bigger than his "big" brother now. So remember, u/s can be was off! Congrats on your twin pregnancy btw! [IMG]

Looking forward to seeing you in FY in a 10 weeks!

Thanks Sarah and Becky for the words of wisdom. And to look at y'all's twins now and know they are just fine (and cute as a button).

Guess I will try to keep my nerves settled until the next u/s.

My peri told me they didn't really worry about weight until it dropped below the 5th percentile....so you've got a way to go! I wouldn't worry - they're different babies [IMG]

Mine were almost a 1.5 apart at birth too. Never once was my doctor concerned. They were growing, and at their own rate. And that was the most important thing of all!

Another big discordance here and both perfectly healthy. You definitely want to be sure they are both growing and you can help that by making sure you are eating right, drinking water and listening to your body but besides that their growth is really out of your control. It sounds like you are getting great care which is key! Try not to stress about things you can't control and concentrate on the things you can!!

Mine were 2 pounds apart at birth and they are both fine now. They are almost the same weight now. My daughter did drop under the 5th percentile and they talked about taking them early, but you've got so far to go before you would get to that point. They did end up taking them at 32 weeks, but because of pre-eclampsia, not the growth discordance. And they did wonderfully. There's not really anything you can do to get a baby to gain weight in utero. My OB suggested bedrest to take any extra stress off the pregnancy, but my peri said it wouldn't make a difference in this case. Who knows? Let us know how your next u/s goes.

I posted almost the exact same thing on Tuesday. I was 27wks 4 days and my boy weighted 2 lb. 7 oz and my little girl only 2 lbs. I was concerned about the difference but also their relatively small size. Up until this appt. both of my babies had measured a little bigger than their age.

I am going back in 3 weeks but have decided to chalk it up to a couple of things mostly, a new u/s tech and we know that all of them measure differently. If she is conservative in her measurements or off a mm or two it could account for a couple of ounces either way. At any rate, my dr. was not concerned either.

My feelings and questions are the same as yours. Is there something I am doing wrong or could be doing differently to give my babies the best chance? Should I eat more, do less, cut out my daily exercise, take naps, etc... I could go on and on but I don't want to drive myself too crazy. I am going to wait until my next u/s and request a diff. u/s tech and see what happens.

Hang in there and be sure to keep us posted
    Amy
