26 weeks and decreased movement

I wish I could calm down a bit, but I'm just so nervous. I've been feeling pretty consistent movement for close to 8 weeks already. Last night, I felt less movement and today it wasn't much better. I drank orange juice, ate sugary ice pops and laid on my side, as well as other positions where I feel increased movement. Although the movement didn't completely stop, it was less than I usually feel. I called my OB and he said that at this point, the movement isn't that consistent and that if the babies turned/moved, it makes sense that I should feel less. He said he wouldn't send me to the hospital at this point (he's not in his office on Sunday), and I should wait until tomorrow morning to call the office for a quick ultrasound, but he's positive that everything's fine. I wish I'd feel as positive as he does. I'm just so nervous about this.

I have paid out of pocket for 3 ultrasounds now for that very reason. This little fellow makes me so nervous! When he moves he really moves and when he sleeps he sleeps for days it seems. The last time he went through a what I thought was a hibernation or something, he was turned with his front toward my back so during the ultrasound, he moved but I felt very little of it. I wish a mother had a little window so that she could take a peek anytime she wanted to!!! I am glad the dr will do an ultrasound for you tomorrow I always feels much better afterwards!!

Follow your gut, Esther. If you are concerned, head off to the ER for a quick NST or BPP. I can't tell you how many times I called my doctor and went right in when I was concerned about decreased movement.

I agree.....I'd rather see those babes and hear those heartbeats and KNOW, then come home and get a good nights sleep, then become exhausted worrying. HUGS HUGS HUGS

This is one thing I liked about my insurance. Because they were twins I could go anytime after hours to the hospital to get checked out. I don't think anything is wrong, but I, too, am in the camp that if I'm worried enough to post online about it, I probably ought to go in. Either way, I'll be thinking of you and hoping the babies start kicking the heck out of you tonight.

i had the same issue about two weeks ago luckily we had a sono the next day already scheduled just to find out that baby A was facing towards my back and thats why i felt decreased movement. So glad your doctor is letting you come in to get an U/S better to know that to be freaking out about it. Let us know how the US goes. :grouphug:

The staff at labor and delivery at my hospital said there is no such thing as crying wolf during a twin preg. They told me if I was concerned about anything to come in and get checked out. Good luck with your u/s today

Thank you everyone for your comments. I have an appointment scheduled with the doctor later today. I didn't go to the ER because they have an awful, grainy machine there that's just more anxiety inducing for me. I'm feeling movement, just less and wanted the doctor to see the babies and tell me what's been going on that I'm feeling less.

Esther, I'm glad you're going in. I asked my husband if he could remember when I started fretting over movement and he and I both agree that it was around 26 weeks. That seems to be when the babies are more cramped and so you'll feel less dramatic kicks and rolls in favor of nudges and wiggles.

    Keep us posted!

I just came home. Thankfully, the girls are doing really well! :) Two beautiful heartbeats and wiggling little arms and legs. It was the sweetest sight. They have both changed positions, and are facing each other, so the babies are feeling the kicks, while I feel almost nothing. The doctor was really reassuring and told me whenever I feel the need to come in just for a quick ultrasound, I should feel free to do so. :)

Thanks for all your wishes and thoughts.

He really is! He said - it's normal for you to feel so anxious because of your history and we DO have to be more careful, so really, anytime you need reassurance, just come in.

Awesome awesome news! Do you think the Dr would mind if you moved in for the remainder of the pregnancy?!? I remember those days. I would freak out if I didn't feel them as well. Nothing says reassurance like a quick u/s. Glad you have an awesome doctor!

:rotflmbo: You think it's a joke? Yesterday morning, I stayed in bed and slept until almost 12pm just to be 'unconscious' instead of fretting for a few more hours. I thought either I move into his office, or I sleep for the next while until the babies are ready. :p
