So Michael is kind of in 24 month clothing now...except the bottoms which fall off of him. (He needs 18 mths still on the bottom) But I was wondering if a child is 24 months old, they are logically 2 years old...so what is the difference in clothing? Can I buy 2T stuff now?

we buy some 24 month and some 2T...there really is not much difference in my opinion...my girls can still wear 18 month tops but the bottoms are almost too short, so I just went a size up so they could get as much wear out of them as possible...my little chunky monkeys :) BUT, we have been buying 2T from Old Navy since christmas...it was too big on them for a few months, but Old Navy runs so small...they cannot wear anything smaller than that from there now.

2T i just a hair bigger! My sons have to wear 24 month shirts, but 12 month shorts because they have no hips. For pants I have to put them in 24 months or else it looks like they have high waters on. They are very tall.

The difference depends on the brand! I bought dresses for the girls in 24 months and 2T on sale. These are the exact same dresses and when I hold them up to one another, I cannot discern any difference in the sizes. DH says the only difference is the 24 months came with a diaper cover and the 2T didn't! The weight range tends to overlap with 2T going a bit higher.

Usually, the 2T stuff will be slightly longer in length and smaller in the waist.

My kids aren't even here yet, so I feel silly answering, but my friend and I asked this at the Gap once when shopping with her little boy. According to the saleslady there, 24 months is cut a little bigger in the booty area to accomodate a diaper, where a 2 T is cut a little leaner. Not sure if this is true, but it makes sense to me!

Yes, what ppl said 2t is more slender and straight whereas 24m is wider for the chubby legs and diaper. My boys are 20m and 2T is getting too small, I will be buying 3T for fall.

I asked a sales person this a while back at The Childrens Place and she said that 2T will be about 2 inches longer and a bit leaner in the hip area than 24 months I don't know if this is true for all the stores but at least at TCP that is the case. :)

I think it totally depends on the brand. Many places have an 18-24 month size and then go to 2T.

I think 24mo clothing is meant to be worn from 18-24mos, whereas 2T is more for the 2yr+ crowd. I have also heard that 2T are just longer and cut thinner.

I also second 2T are for without diaper, leaner kids. Also I find 2T have the adjustable waist band. My boys are in 2T tops and 18m shorts, 2T/24month falls off them. I have to get them the adjustable 2T pants for this winter and really pull them in.

2T is slightly bigger than 24 months. We got two "Illinois" shirts and one was 2t, one was 24 months. And one fit my son and one fit my daughter and they are a good 5 1/2 pounds apart. So it's not a huge difference between the two sizes, but there is a difference. It probably depends on the brand too.

Great advice ladies, I was wondering this too. The girls are comfortable in 18 month stuff right now, but I am looking ahead for next summer and thinking of getting them 2T. I wasn't sure the difference either.
