When I go to Walmart/Target etc., I still put the kids in the double stroller and shop. Of course, I can't buy too much as I have to put it under the stroller. Does anyone put them in the cart? If so, is one in the seat and one in the back? Does the one in the back stay seated? I'm just wondering as I get tired of hauling out the duoglider and turning corners with it has become quite a workout. Thanks.

If we are at Costco, we put them both in the seat part. If we are at a place with a smaller cart, I will either put one up front and one in the main cart or both in the main cart. They prefer to walk around so they put up a fuss at times, but I definitely think it's better than the stroller. I stopped using that at the store a long time ago. I try to make them be involved with the shopping like helping me put the item in the cart. They love that.

The Wal*Mart near me has the blue plastic (I know not a great description) double seater attached to the shopping cart where the children face the cart. Each seat has straps. I have used those since they were about one until now at five I usually let them walk. The Target close to me has a funkier type seat but it is also attached to the carriage where the children face each other. Again, there are buckles for both children. I don't do alot of this kind of shopping (although I do bring them grocery shopping weekly) but when I do, I try to make sure it is 'off' hours to ensure cart availability.

Mine were really good at two as well and I loved to take them shopping. I remember the first time I put them in a cart was when Walmart was having their big once a year sale. The place was packed and I had one of those "what was I thinking" moments. However, they did great and I only had to remind the one in the back to "sit down on your bum please" a few times. I would definitely give it a try.

When we are in a hurry and they can't walk, they ride on the sides of the cart. Brandon has the front seat occupied.

I ussually put them both in the big part, and encourage them to sit by telling them if they cant, they will go in the baby part.... that way I have at least a cart to use [IMG]

We usually put one in the seat and one in the basket if that is the only kind of cart available. I try to bring an especially enticing snack so that the kids don't fight over who gets to sit where, and so that the one in the basket doesn't stand up.

They do have the two seater carts at Target (and Walmart, which I rarely frequent) for older kids, where there are two bench-type seats slightly facing each other. We use those when we go to Target, but they don't last long and start kicking each other. I am hoping they will learn since this is ideally the best option.

Yes, I do. And it is perfectly safe IF you are watching them closely, and MAKE them sit down. When I pull up to wal-mart, I tell them... 'If you want to go in, you have to be good boys for mommy.' Then when I get the cart, and put them in it, I tell them to sit down, in a nice but firm voice. And they do the entire time we are shopping.

I also have been still taking my double stroller if I have to take the kids with me to the store. It really doesn't work too well, does it? I have seen other people either with their children in a regular cart or the type of cart that has two children seats. I was afraid that if I we walked in and no cart with child seats was available we'd be in big trouble. Think I'll just have to bite the bullet though and give it a try. The kids are really starting to dislike the stroller so I take lots of snacks, etc. to get them to cooperate. That would probably help with the cart, too.

I too usually put them both in the main part of the cart unless they have the carts where they can be strapped in and face each other. I have not used my double stroller in A LONG time. I actually think I am going to sell it.

As soon as mine could sit up on their own, I started putting one in the front seat of the cart and one in the basket. I kept an extra seat strap in my purse (got it on the internet) so I could strap the one in the back to the side of the basket. That kept him seated, upright, and safe.

When they got older, I tried the two-seater Target carts twice and then gave up. They did nothing but fight. So I kept putting one in the cart basket, but without the strap. They did fine.

Our Kroger and Sam's Club have the carts with a double seat, so mine ride in the cart at those stores. At Target I put them in the stroller and just put things in the stroller basket or if I need more than that I pull a cart behind me. I haven't put one in the cart (the open part) since they were in carriers. The thought of them jumping/falling out scares me too much!

The majority of the time I use our Mountain Buggy and pull a cart. The Mountain Buggy turns on a dime with one hand so it's easy to push it one-handed. Not ideal but it works. I'll also take two carts sometimes since putting them in the back can be so dangerous if the kiddo in back suddenly stands and then falls out. My two are the type who will stand every freakin' frackin' time the cart stops so that is not an option I'll use. I can't imagine using a DuoGlider still, that sounds very difficult! Good luck and happy shopping!

We shop at Costco alot b/c of the double carts. Some Targets have double seats - which would be OK for 2 yr olds. But, mainly I put one in the seat and one in the cart. It works for short trips when you don'y have to buy much.

I save big trips for my 'big nights out' while DH watches the kids....

I never let one of them in the main basket. It is too dangerous if they were to fall out (this actually happened to a friend of mine). If I do not take the double stroller with me (mine are almost 3), then I put one in the seat part of the cart and then the other one helps me push the cart (if we are at Costco, then they both sit in the double seat).

This is actually a pet-peeve of mine (letting kids sit on the cart and not the basket), especially when the person has a singleton and puts the kid in the basket and leaves the seat open (or puts their purse there). We were at Costco on Saturday, and this father had his 3 year old kid in one of the seats (other seat was empty), and had his about 14 month old in the cart. The little kid kept standing up and trying to walk around the cart. The father was not paying any attention to the little kid. I felt very scared for this kid, and could not understand why in the world the little kid was not sitting in the seat.

I still use the DuoGlider if I am shopping by myself. I only have one walking right now, and she runs around too much for me to let her walk. I just can't bring myself to put one in the basket part of the cart. I did when they were younger, I would bring the Bumbo seat and put one in there and one in the cart seat. That worked well, but they have outgrown the Bumbo.

We go "cart surfing" The girls have learned to hold onto the big part of the cart and they don't really move around too much. I go slower than usual, making sure to take corners slower and make them more controlled. We can usually do at least a 30 minute shopping trip like that without any complaints.

That's the only way they like it. I've tried putting them in the seat and they freak out. When DH and I go shopping together, he takes one in the big part and I take another cart and put the other in the big part. When we are stopped, they sometimes wave at each other. When they get bigger, I'm not sure what I will do....probably make them sit. Right now, I think I would have to make the cart go really fast for them to fall out and there's no chance of that.

I only put them in the basket part if I am just running in very quickly for one or two items at my regular grocery store. I don't think I would feel comfortable doing that somewhere like Target where I often need to stop and examine the shelves or an item more closely, and where I'm often putting larger items in the cart. Usually I either go to those places by myself after the girls have gone to bed or I go with my husband on the weekend, and we use two carts. My main concern about putting them in the basket, other than the potential safety issues, is that they'd start tossing my stuff out on to the floor. [IMG]

Similar to PPs. At Sam's we use the carts with two seats in front. Depending on my mood, the weather, and the boys, I'll either use the stroller at Target/Walmart, or one will go in front and one sits in the back. So far they've sat nicely the whole time.
