2 year old suddenly not sleeping

Our son has been sleeping "well" for a while with little fighting and mostly sleeping through the night.

All of the sudden, and we can't figure out a trigger at all, he's fighting us going to sleep, and waking up tons of times and crying and refusing to sleep. He does it at night and at nap.

Any words of wisdom?

I hate to do CIO, but coaxing isn't working, punishing isn't working, and he just cries and cries and no one sleeps.

 

Could he be teething or possible ear infection?

My Lily was recently doing this (also 2 years old). She was throwing fits and kept on crawling out of her crib. I saw this on the one and only episode of the Super Nanny that I've watched and decided to try it: After we layed her down and she started the screaming, I stayed in the room and sat beside her crib. I did not look at her. Every time she tried to crawl out of her crib, I just calmly layed her back down. She kept asking for different things, but I just ignored her. It took almost an hour, but she feel asleep and I stayed beside her crib until then. This was last week. I only did it once, but so far, she hasn't been throwing the fits and crawling out of her crib. If you need to do it more than one time, just sit farther and farther away from the bed every time.

 

He's had his two year molars for a while and we've checked for ear infection. He did have some sleeplessness associated with the molars, but nothing like this.

The super nanny thing worked after one night? We may have to try it.
