2-year molars = utter misery?

Last week Nick went on a bit of a hunger strike and had the most atrocious diarrhea (including several mid-night changes of both clothes and bedding :bad:). He wouldn't eat much, but was BEGGING for milk (my kids have never been huge milk drinkers). He spent more than 90 minutes just sitting on the couch not moving the next morning. This is NOT my kid (he can't sit still for 90 seconds usually). I assumed he was getting sick and braced myself for a parade of family members succumbing to the illness. By the next day the diarrhea was gone and he seemed to be back to his normal (complete ball-buster) self. No one else got sick.

This week is Joe's turn. Hunger strike started yesterday, diarrhea hit last night, lethargy this morning. I didn't even think about checking for new teeth until Joe presented with the exact same issues a week removed. Sure enough, Nick's teeth are further along and coming in in mirror image of Joe's, just like all the others before.

Were your kids miserable as their molars came in? How long did it affect them? Each boy only has two, so I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop (which will likely be two separate weeks if history is any indication) when the other side erupts.

Hmm, I suppose it could be the molars, but that sounds more like a 24-hour gastro thing to me. I know my older one has had poop/puke viruses before that we were lucky enough not to catch....

Hope that's the end of it for you! Nadia wasn't a bad teether at all, but my little ones have been miserable with their 1-year molars, so I'm sure the 2-year will be loads of fun.

No diarrhea for us... we had nap refusal, night wakings, extreme irritability, chewing on everything in sight, uncharacteristic clinginess, and unusual swings in appetite. The 2-year molars were worse than any of the other teeth. Once they figured out that the medicine made them feel better and tastes pretty good, they were all about taking it... so then I had to worry about whether they wanted the Motrin because they like the taste or because they need it.

You'll have your boys back eventually; hang in there!

About 2 months ago, Seamus has had practically his whole fist in his mouth. I felt for them but could not feel them (2 months ago). He was super crabby and woke at night often but that was the only symptoms. I have not felt them for awhile but will then they get up. The only symptom that remains for him is his hand in his mouth. I have assumed it was molars but I dont know. I would think they would have come in by now. I wonder how long they take to come in once they show symptoms?

Do you really want to know? Really? We had symptoms off & on from 19 months to approximately 31 months when they were all through the surface and done. Horrible, I tell you, just horrible. I hope we're the weird ones.

    12 months of misery?

When I looked last night Nick has one all the way through and one 3/4 of the way through. His other two are just below the surface. Joe has one that's 3/4 of the way through and one that is 1/4 up. I can't feel anything on his other side yet. His sleep has been disturbed (mostly around 3-5am) in the last week or two. I can't handle it if it lasts 12 months...we just started sleeping really well (meaning no night wakings and no 5am wakings) at the beginning of the summer.

The clinginess is rather sweet considering they are usually obnoxiously independent. Can I just keep the clinginess and return the sleep disruptions?

MIS-ER-A-BLE!! I have one who is the easiest teether ever, and these molars are even kicking her butt. :( Seriously, with the first 12 teeth she would wake up once the night before it popped through, was a little cranky the next day and BOOM a tooth. The molars make her ridiculously clingy, whiney, miserable beyond belief. It breaks my heart!!

Hmmm, I wonder if this is whats going on with DD. She has been incredibly clingy, whiny, just plain miserable...on and off for about 2 weeks now. I thought she was young for the 2 yr molars, but she will be 2 in three weeks. I can't feel anything back there, althought she did almost take a finger off in the process! She is still missing an eye tooth top front. But i don't see anything there either. I really hope it is teething. B/c if this is her new personality, i don't want any of it!
