I am a little concerned...alright A LOT concerned. I am 33w today and the babies only gained 5 ozs and 2 ozs over two weeks! Now weighing in at 3lb 8 oz and 3lb 12oz. I was told Baby A's abdomen is measuring small. The weight gain is enough to worry about now I have to worry what a small abdomen means???

Was your doctor concerned? Maybe you just have small babies? And what did they tell you the small abdomen can mean? Keep in mind that these measurements are frequently inaccurate and a lot depends on the positioning of the babies and the skill of the tech doing the US. Maybe everything is fine and today was just an off day! Keep us posted!!

The last couple of appointments my High Risk dr who does these ultrasounds himself has seems a little puzzled. I do ask him some questions although not as many as I would like because he either does not answer them fully or he leaves me even more confused. I do trust him though one of the very best in our area. I did ask him what it could mean and he said that I cold just be having small babies, could be the start of TTTS (which these are di di twins and I lost one of my babies to TTTS last mono di pregnancy, or there could be another underlying issue. He does seem hopeful that I can continue to carry these babies to 37 weeks but I just don't understand how if they are not gaining the weight. Can't it cause disabilities to not get the nutrients they need from the placenta. I can not go through another loss or having a disabled child I could have helped prevent.

Thanks for listening! I will keep you posted.

My boys growth slowed significantly from 30 weeks on, they start running out of room. My boys were born at 37 weeks, my ob wanted me to go to 38 weeks however my baby B hadn't gained any weight from my 34-36 week ultrasound. I convinced her to take them sooner, I was actually hoping she was going to send me over to the hospital my last appointment but she made me wait 1 more week. From the sounds of it, they are following you closely, but if you are concerned and you are rightly so given your past experience, maybe letting your OB know so that you are both on the same page will help you be more at ease.

When my Baby A's abdomen was smaller accordingly that the rest of her, my Dr. wasn't concerned as long as her abdomen measurement didn't keep getting smaller... not that she'd shrunk, but that the rest of her was growing and her abdomen measurement didn't keep getting further behind. She was born smaller than her sister, and had no issue with the "smaller" abdomen. Good luck!
