I found out a few weeks ago that my little girl has a 2 vessel cord and a left ventrical foci (which from what I've read is like a calcium spot on her heart)...just wondering if anyone else has experience with either of these issues?
We had fetal echo's done and the cardiologist said both hearts were normal-normal functioning and development, which is good! He said that the spot on her heart can sometimes be an indicator of downs. We did the nuchal test with bloodwork and our odds of downs came back very low, but I'm wondering if these issues will increase her chance of having downs?
Anyway, any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated :)

    Thanks!

My daughter Addison had a 2 vessel cord and we didn't even know it until she was born! all those ultrasounds and they never could see it!

Anyways, she did have problems at birth but they were totally unrelated to that!!

I have heard of lots of babies that had 2 vessel cords that do not have downs or any other problems. I am thinking that they can just outgrow the calcium spot on the heart - one of my girls had something similar I can't remember what they called it but "calcium spot" is what I knew it as - - she outgrew it and has had NO problems!!

CONGRATULATIONS on your babies!!!! please keep us posted!!

One of my DDs had a calcium spot and had 'higher' nuchal fold. She has issues unrelated to both (mild muscle tone issues & sensory issues related to prematurity) but is a very bright, verbal, normal 2 year old.

One of my twins had a 2 vessel cord - she is smaller, but healthy! They are ID - and do not have any problems.

Hi, I don't have personal experience with this but my sister's daughter had a ventrical foci that they found on the ultrasound and after some additional tests they told her the chances of downs was low and she is now a happy and thriving 5 month OLD!! So as hard as it is not to worry, try to stay positive! Good Luck!!

Several of my kids had 2 vessel cords and there were no problems related to that. I don't know about the foci personally, but did you ever ask your doctor what the odds are that it will cause problems?

no expereince with the cord issue but my dd had that spot in her heart too. The dos didn't seem concerned so I didn't think about it again after that. no problems, she is fine.

Thank you ladies for all your replies and reassurance! I saw my high risk OB yesterday and talked to him about it. He said with the 2VC they usually worry about kidney issues and so far her kidneys appear to be just fine. They also check for growth-so far she is bigger than her brother by a couple oz's and they check the renal artery.
He also said with the spot on the heart as long as it is in the left ventrical they dont usually worry about it, but if its anywhere else they might increase the chances of DS by 1%-my little girls is in the left ventrical so they arent too worried.
Of course I still worry, but what can ya do?!
