I am 19w5d preggo with twins and thhis is my first pregnancy. I am wondering if it is normal to have Braxton Hicks this early. I have had it about four times this week. They aren't painful more startling than anything. The first one was right after the hubby and I had sex so I am wondering if that had anything to do with it. One was after taking a very small hike and the other two were just random. Are they more serious if you are expecting twins vs singleton?

My other question is, is it normal to only feel movement on one side. I have two separate placenta's and the Dr said that one is against my belly the other is against the back part so I am assuming this is why I can only feel movement on one side. I don't go back to the dr till next Tuesday so I thought I would ask around in here just to get some opinions.
    Thanks Dee

I'm not sure about the BH part -- but I do believe I had them that early with my DD. Not 4x a day though, probably only a few in a row once per day.

Right now I am 16.5 weeks and only usually feel movement on my rt side. I have 2 placentas too! Dr said that's fine!!!

The BH have been occuring over the two days not all at once. That would really freak me out. I just didn't realize that you could have them that early.

How do you know they are BH contractions and not real contractions? Have you called your Dr? You might want to make sure they are not causing any cervical changes. I can tell you from personal experience, you can never be too cautious!

As far as the movement, it's totally normal to only feel it on one side. It could be the position of the babies, and at 19w they are still very small. Even up to 28 weeks there were times when I couldn't differentiate kicks. Good Luck!

I would go in to see your doctor sooner and make sure your cervix is okay. I started with BH contractions around 23 weeks. I listened to people at work who said they were totally normal (I had never been pregnant before). It turned out my cervix was changing with the contractions (much, much shorter than normal). I almost delivered at 24 weeks, but ended up on bed rest and lots of drugs. Fortunately, we made it to 36 weeks. Twin pregnancies can change quickly and it's always worth being cautious. I would ask to have my cervix length measured with a vaginal ultrasound. Most likely, everything is okay, but check it out! GL

My bh cntrax started very early prob 16 weeks or so but they did not change my cervix. I had some bad ones too and had them check my cervix and it was always long. Right up to my scheduled c it was long. Any kind of activity caused mine. They will just gradually increase your whole pregnancy. Better safe than sorry - Id get it checked just to make sure your cervix isnt shortening.

My BH started at 16 weeks. They tested me to make sure I wasn't getting a UTI as that can cause contractions. They started me on progesterone injections at that point to help relax my uterus. My DR said that BH are more normal during a twin preg but to monitor them. If you notice you are getting one, sit or lay down and drink plenty of fluids. Your Dr will probably start to monitor your cervix for changes via u/s. Sex (especially with orgasm) can cause a contraction but it should not be painful and should go away quickly, if this is not happening I would refrain and call your DR. This is my 5th viable pregnancy ( we lost a baby last year) and first twins and it is way different than a singleton since this is your first I would ask a lot of questions and call your DR if ever you have a concern.... you know the saying there is no such thing as a dumb question.. that couldn't be more true when you are pregnant!! GL!
