Hello, I am a new mom and new to this forum! My twins have been bottle fed since birth, starting out at 1oz every two hours, they are now at 4 oz every feeding but still wanting to eat every two-three hours (this includes nights). When do they begin to go longer between bottles? Should I increase the formula amount? Maybe its just to soon, but it would be nice if they could/would go four hours!

This is completely normal. We still feed every 3 - 3 1/2 hours. Mine STTN though. I think mine started STTN consistently around 5 months. You can try to offer them both more at one time and see if you can stretch it.

Totally normal :) Mine were both finishing 4 oz bottles every 1.5 hrs by the time they were 2 wks old. At around 4.5 months they went from 1.5 to a 2 hr schedule. Now, they're at 6.5 - 7oz every 2.5 - 3 hrs [plus three times solids] per day. Mine are not STTN [sleep through the night] consistently yet  but they wake about once per night and STTN once a week each.

That sounds about right! I think I started getting longer stretches in between feedings when their formula intake increased around 3-4 months.

I agree with all the poster...mine were born at 32.5 weeks, and at that age were still being fed every 2-3 hours around the clock. You will naturally see a progression to longer stretches. It will come...hang in there!

That's totally normal, and it's probably going to last for a while, especially if they are preemies. My guys got a combination of breastmilk and formula. They were full term, and they ate every 3 hours around the clock for the first 8 months.

I'd try to get someone to help with a few feeds so you can get some sleep. :)

We did every three hours during the day until 8 or 9 months. They started to spread out the night time feedings around 4 months I think. You can certainly try to give them more at night to see if it helps - watch out though if you force it in them it may come back out :)

Completely normal. Mine ate every 2.5 hours until they were around 3 months old, when we switched it to every 3 hours. DD stopped night feedings at around 2 and a half months, and DS cut down to one night feeding when he was around three and a half months, and finished completely around four months. They started being fed every four hours when they were six months, with four bottles a day, and now they are onto three bottles a day with three solid meals and a snack.

totally normal mine are 8 months and still eat ever 3-4 hours but you could try upping the formula to get you to 3-4 instead of 2-3

Around 6-8 weeks, we started to get 4 hours the first night stretch and then 3 hour stretches the rest of the night. Otherwise, it was every 2-3 hours. My kids were 6+ months before they could go 4 hours without eating.

On increasing the formula, I tended to subscribe to the theory that, if you think it may be time to increase, increase. They will stop when they are done.

Mine were the very same. They're 16 weeks now and the first 14 1/2 weeks were hellish. I never stopped feeding them. I kept wondering what I was doing wrong. But about a week and a half ago, they just sorted themselves out. Their feeds are less frequent and they're no longer nursing for hours at a time.

Keep up the great work!! :good: Mine only ever went to 3 hours. By the time we made it that far it was time to start adding in solids and finger foods. Ack!

We have always gone 2.5-3 hours between feedings - up until the last few weeks (7-ish months). I am trying to stretch it out so I can go from 5 bottles to 4. Mine were sleeping 12 hours at 12 weeks. GL!
