my girls are 10 wks tomorrow (6 wks corrected) recently they are having trouble sleeping during the day. they will be full, burped, changed and swaddled and we put them down in the swing, boppy, boppy chair, carseat or even in our arms. they will fall asleep, in a few minutes but will wake up within 15/20 minutes for unknown reasons.

we'll put the binkey back in their mouths, re-burp or re-swaddle them but it will keep happening. i'm worried they aren't getting the deep restful sleep they need for good health. is this just a phase? any ideas on whats causing it or what i can do about it...

both girls do it and they seem to alternate who is fussing so i never get a break and i'm getting pretty drained...

Did they go through a fussy period between 6-8 weeks actual? If not, this may be their growth spurt time. When mine were 6-8 weeks actual, they hardly slept and were SUPER fussy. It was tough. But it got much better after. Sometimes mine won't sleep, or will only sleep for 15 min then wake (Maya especially does this). I don't really have any answers though.

Try the vacuum cleaner AND it could be reflux- that's when I discovered my boys'. This is just a rough period.. no matter what.

Oh yes, 6 weeks was a very hard age for us. They wanted to be held all the time and just did not really seem to be comfortable unless we were holding them. Hang in there. :hug99:

They seem to increase in fussiness at the 6 week (corrected age) and then in decreases after that. I found this was a good time to start to focus on their future nap times. Have you read Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child ? HSHHC. Everyone talks about it on here -- worth finding the time to read it. It talks about the various ages and problems you will encounter. At your babies ages I would hold them at nap times (9AM and 1 PM ) especially. Usually my favourite shows were on then too. I had to just grab my food, drinks and then park my butt on the couch. (yes your butt will grow during these months) I didn't put them down until about 30 - 45 mins so they were really into a good sleep. I had a Moses basket and put them into the basket to nap.

As time went on, I had to hold them less and less because they were used to sleeping at that time. I was lucky they didn't seem to want me at the SAME time. Down the road life is great !! They sleep 2 hours in AM 2 hours in the Afternoon and to bed at 6:30 PM ..... If you read that book you will be such a happier mom at 4 months.

Take this time to let time just stop and enjoy holding them in your arms. Even at 4 months you will miss that sleeping baby.

I'm sorry you're so exhausted, I completely feel your pain! I agree with pp that 6 weeks is a really difficult time. My babies were extremely fussy from about 4-10 weeks or so. They were fussy most of the time they were awake and naps certainly weren't consistent at that age. Do you use the techniques of the 5 Ss from that other book--what's it called--I'm blanking :) The swaddling, shushing, etc. I also love the HSHHC book which has good tips for each age and stage.

Mine went through a fussy stage where it seemed nothing we would do would keep them asleep. We would put them wherever we could just so they would get a few good minutes of shut eye. Don't worry, they will eventually get out of this stage and jump right into another!!!

Have you tried white noise? We like the swing/ fan combo best for naps.

DS did this around 7 weeks old, he would be up for 3/4 of the day. We just muddled through and it eventually improved. Whatever we could do to get him to sleep we did. Also if he was just awake and not fussy we just let him hang out next to us and we talked and sang to him.

Thanks everyone! things have improved a little!

It's hard being a first time mom of twins.. I dont' know what's normal and everytime they are difficult I panic and think oh no, it's going to be like this from now on...

but i guess I need to remember that everything is a "stage" and will hopefully pass sooner rather than later :)
