When will my babies really start smiling? I thought the dr said they should be doing it already and all I have seen is the falling asleep smiles and maybe a smirk here and there. We getting some cooing but not very much, please tell me what your babies were doing at this age.

Mine have really started smiling recently and every day it just gets more and more. They will do it when they are ready. We do the piggies rhyme they love that and tickle them. They love to have kisses from their toys and smiles from mom and dad. Just talk to them a lot and smile a lot as I'm sure you are already doing. Some days they don't smile as much but as a rule, especially my little guy (of course, my camera isn't quick enough) does it a lot more it seems. He also talks more. They will do it soon I bet.

For us it was right around 7 weeks that we got the first one. But then it took a while for them to do it all the time. I bet you will see it soon!!

I think the first might have been around 8 or 9 weeks or so. But my son gave big grins from the beginning and it was (and still sorta is) hard to get my daughter to smile. She's gotten a lot better now, but it's still not the grins like my son has. They're just different. It wasn't until a week ago that I finally got one of her smiles on camera because they never lasted long enough to catch. The thing that made them both smile for the first time was done by their grandfather. I didn't realize they could really smile before this, because just our talking and smiling at them and being silly wasn't doing it early on. But he'd get in their face and slap both their arms that were hanging down at their sides and say "bop bop bop..." over and over. He'd hit them hard enough to make the arms bounce up and down as he did it. They would love it and I'd get the biggest smiles from that, when I didn't know they were even capable of doing it yet. Now when they're not in a smiley mood I'll resort back to that and it still gets some good grins.

mine have been smiling for a while BUT my oldest DS didn’t smile until 10 weeks (10 min after i called the Dr concerned about it... seriously) and he is the biggest smiley kid now... so it can be all over the place when they start t smile... and mean nothing when they do...
