Oh my goodness, I can't believe my little babies are one year old today! What an awesome year it has been. Every day I look at my boys and am in awe that I have the incredible blessing of twins; I find my self feeling bad for people that don't get to experience the joy of having two babies at once.

We celebrated their birthday with our parents, my brother and his family, and a close friend. Small, but intimate. [IMG] I made each boy their own little cake for them to dive into, but had the bigger cake made at our local bakery. We did a Baby Einstein theme. The cake they made was awesome! So beautiful! It had the B.E. caterpillar on it and they used different colors for each line of trim they put on. I could tell the person who made it knows about Baby Einstein!

On the cakes I made them, I wrote "Baby A" and "Baby B" in blue or green icing. We used those two colors the first few months to keep their car seats and a few other things straight between the two boys. Nathan showed that he has a true sweet tooth by the way he dove into his cake! He quite literally couldn't shovel it into his mouth fast enough! His brother took little bites and savored each one. When they were done, Nathan's plate was scraped clean and he was working on leftovers from his bib. Andrew had barely made a dent in his cake.

The last 12 months . . . well, we'd had trouble getting pregnant with my DD, so when we got pregnant with the boys when Abigail was 8 months old, we were shocked. When we found out a few months later that we were having twins we were speechless. Especially my husband. We were also very scared. My DH was one year away from finishing his nursing degree at a school that was 2 hours away. I would be having the boys at the beginning of his last semester and taking care of our three little ones on my own until May. Fortunately, both our families live close by, so I had help if I needed it.

We had our boys by a scheduled c-section. Baby B (Nathan) was breech, and I was too scared of the possible complications of a natural delivery with Nathan being breech. My delivery was textbook and so was my recovery. When I left the hospital I spent the weekend at home with my husband, but when he returned to school I went to my parents house for the next 7 days. After that I returned to my own house and did it all on my own. We settled into a routine fairly quickly and the only things I found difficult was the lack of sleep. Lucky for me, my boys started sleeping through the night during their 8th week. Nathan slept through the first night I didn't wake him up to nurse (I would wake him up to nurse when his brother woke up). Within days his brother started sleeping through. Thank goodness they did that when they did, because I had to return to work the following week.

Andrew had a bit of reflux until he was somewhere around 6 months old (I'm horrible about remembering when things happened! I have it all written down though!), so that was frustrating at times. Frustrating in the sense that I knew he was in pain, or uncomfortable and I felt powerless at times to help him. Nathan was a fairly laid back baby and never seemed to mind that his brother got more attention. It bothered me though.

They both started crawling around 8-9 months. Nathan is now the baby that wants more of my attention and Andrew is quite content to go play on his own. The boys and their sister make me laugh all the time the way they play together. They also give me headaches with the way they fight! [IMG] Neither boy is walking, although I think Nathan could if he wanted to. Andrew wants to, but doesn't have the balance. It'll be interesting to see which one does it first.

I'm proud to say that we are still nursing with no plans on stopping any time soon. I nursed their sister until she was 17 months old (the boys were one month old - yes, I nursed her during my entire pregnancy, and while in the hospital post-partum) and had to quit because I was getting too stressed nursing all three and being alone. She would have a fit when they nursed and I couldn't do anything about it. Very stressful. I still feel badly that I had to wean her before she chose to, so I want the boys to be able to let me know when they are ready to stop. Within reason . . . I'm also a bit anxious to have my body back, sleep on my tummy, wear a normal bra, not feel the pain of engorgment when I'm late to nurse, etc. [IMG]

I don't know how to provide a link to pictures, but I will try to figure it out later. I'm a teacher and it's semester time (and P/T conference time), so I have a million things I have to get done for school. When I get a chance I will share photos of my little guys - and my beautiful little girl.

Thanks to everyone that uses this site. I don't post very often, but I visit almost daily and find answers to many of my own questions. In the early months it was also nice to visit and see some of my own frustrations or concerns being voiced. It made me feel not so alone while I was alone with my three babes.

    My boys

I don't know if this will work, but these are the photos we had done last month. The boys were 11 months old and my daughter was 27 months old.

Darn it, the link doesn't work, it says we need a user name and password or a sitting number and a sitting code. I can't wait to see them though!
