2 cm dilated and 80% effaced

I just came back from my last perinatal appt. and an OB appt. The babies are both over 5 lbs. (5 lbs. 3 oz. and 5 lbs. 4 oz) and still head down! The OB said I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced so it really could be anytime now. I have an induction date scheduled for July 22nd (they like to induce between 37 and 38 weeks which is fine with me!!) but am just curious for anyone who is farther along or had their babies--how long could I stay 2 cm ann 80% effaced? I'm so uncomfortable and so ready to meet the girls!

 

I was 2 cm from around 34 weeks, but not effaced (at least I don't remember them saying) and made it to 39 weeks. :good: Try to take it easy and keep them in there as long as possible. I know 35 weeks is a great milestone, but a couple of more weeks will do them good.

With my singleton I was 90% effaced and 2 cm dilated for a month. I actually went over my due date with him and had to be induced even though I was effaced and dilated all that time. However, I had him very quickly once my OB broke my bag of water. With my girls, I had them a month early and was a fingertip dilated for two weeks.

 

Thanks for the info! It is interesting how doctors are very different because my perinatalogist and my OB were both excited that I might go soon. I'm scheduled to be induced at 37 weeks and 2 days and my perinatalogist said she really doesn't like to see it even a day past 37 weeks but she was OK with my induction date because she thought they would come sooner. She said the risks far outweigh the benefits beyond 37 weeks and given that I started this journey with 4 miscarriages, I'm nervous about leaving them in too long. Just curious why some people's doctors don't seem concerned about leaving them in longer. I am also homozygous for MTHFR and on intravenous blood thinners, so maybe that is the difference. I would appreciate any thoughts!

 

I was 75% effaced and 1 cm dilated two weeks ago...and no amount of walking, sex, or pineapple is making these girls want to come out! I think it really depends on each person. I actually declined a cervix check at my last appointment because I didn't want to be discouraged if it was the same and hadn't changed!

Well I am 40% effaced, 1cm dialated with a 1cm funneling from the inside and my c-section isn't scheduled until August 7th, so 4 more weeks. My specialist think I will make it as long as I keep my contractions down (with medication) and stay off my feet, which is hard for me to do. My regular OB is just hoping for 5lb babies and we are already at 4lbs so I think to her each day is a miracle. But the specialist told me that being dialated or effaced is no indication of an early delivery, even with funneling.

At my 34 week appt. I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. My doctor said she seriously doubted I would make it to 37 weeks. Well, I was induced at 37 weeks. <_< When I went in I was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced. It made for a really easy labor though, so that was one good thing about it.

I am currently 3 centimeters dilated and 80% effaced.....
hoping to go into labor soon! Maybe I can make it to 37 weeks.

I was 2 cm at 32 and 33 weeks, 3 cm at 34 and 35 weeks, 4 cm at 36 and 37 weeks, 4 1/2 cm at 38 weeks and 4 1/2 cm when they induced me at 38w2d! So it can be quite a while! My early dilation was most likely due to the weight ... they measured close to 9lbs combined at 30 weeks and both over 6lbs each at 34 weeks.

Keep them cooking!

 

I'm 1 1/2 cm dil. and 65% effaced at 36 weeks... now at almost 36 1/2 I'm looking forward to my appt. today. I've been up all night with contractions... and they are still going. My appt. is at 9. Hoping it doesn't get any worse... but if things are progressing I'm hoping today is the day. It's only 4 days from my scheduled c-section date so I feel pretty good about her taking them today!!

I'm so nervous!!!
