2+ and drinking from a cup?

My boys are 2+ years old. One can drink from a regular cup but the other cannot. He still tries to lick the drink out of the cup. Is this something to be "concerned" about (not over reacting concern, just "why isn't he doing this yet" concern). I have some other fine motor concerns with him and he is supposed to be getting an OT out for an eval but that hasn't happened yet and I really haven't pushed too much for it.

One of my boys does really well drinking from a cup. However, the other still needs a bit of practice. He'll try to lift the cup to his mouth but overdoes it and ends up with liquid all over himself.

My daughter does really well but my son likes to pour the drink out (only water for him). We are still using sippies due to amount of pours on the floor. They also use cups with straws but they enjoy pouring those out as well.

Both of mine do okay with a cup. There is definately some spilling out the side of the cup at times nad they totally don't get it that you can't move around and turn your h ands upside down with the cup in your hand without it spilling all over.

Dd was struggling witht he drinking process for a while and lsat month I asked the PT that comes to our house about it. he watched her a bit adn said let's keep an eye on it but she then picked it up with in a few days of asking about it  .

I would call and have them evaluated. I come form the stance of better safe than sorry. An evaluation is non invasive and the benefit they gain if they need help is great nd the peace of mind you get is even bigger. Personally, my concern would be the corrrelation between the coordination of drinking and speech.

THis is what mine do too. I'm not in a huge hurrry to get them off sippies. I don't see anything wrong with using the sippies. My friends DD who is 3 years 3 months was using a sippy last weekend.

What age are they "supposed" to just drink out of a regular cup? Reagan likes too but then she drowns herself by pouring too fast and it spills everywhere and she will kind of cough/choke on it going down to fast. Morgan is "ok" with it, but I wouldnt' trust either one at this point not to make a COMPLETE mess everywhere.

Same here... Evy is really good with a regular cup, although we still mainly give her sippies. Henry tries but he ends up overcompensating and pours it all down himself. He just needs more time and practice and I'll admit I don't let him practice oftan bc I don't like cleaning up the mess! LOL! I figure he might be a little behind but I know my son well enough to know he'll get it when he's ready. Of course he's in EI for delays already and this just happens to be the least of our worries at this point ;)
