My 10.5 month olds have their first colds and they are feeling pretty bad - it is really sad. They are sleepy, fussy, extra clingy and their noses are running like crazy. :(

I swear my older DS did not have a cold until he was 18 months - so I'm looking for any tips you might have on helping them feel better?

    Thanks!

My boys and I are all struggling with this too now. (I never, ever, ever get sick, and here I am with a runny friggin' nose!!!!)

keep them warm, put a humidifier in their room, if you breastfeed, nurse as often and as long as they want and you can, and maybe once a day, turn your shower on all the way hot and bring them into the bathroom so that they can breathe in the steam and loosen things up.

    Feel better soon!

My peds tell me to use the saline nose drops for nasal congestion, and that helps (a little).

Otherwise, we just ride these things out and hope for no residual ear infections. Lots of videos, laying around and snuggling is also recommended for the entire family!

Hope y'all are all better soon!

Unfortunately, I exclusively pump now due to their latch issues that caused chronic mastitis. :(

With my older DS, whenever he was sick, I'd just plan for a day spent on the couch nursing and cuddling. I sooo wish I could do this with these two. I would love to spend the day just nursing them.

I'll have to do the steamy shower idea, though. Thanks!

Sorry to hear your house is sick, too. I hope you all feel better!!

Thanks! I'm worried about the ear infections. Finley just got over an ear infection about 3 weeks ago. I do plan on lots of snuggle time and I'll have to bring out the saline.

We have had colds bronchitis ear infections and coughs for god knows how long now. I rub baby vics on their chest and a little under their noses, saline spray their noses during the day every 3 hours or so, tylenol them before bed, use olbas oil drops on cotton wool to put by their beds, elevate their beds - and I think thats about it! Not tried humidifiers yet. Hope they are feeling better soon!

I know this sounds crazy but it's not and really works.

Try hand-expressing breastmilk in their ears. The antibodies will prevent or cure any ear infection. The bm is body temperature and will feel good to them as well. I do this and works perfectly. Never had any issues thank God.

Thanks for all of the advice, everyone!

After posting, Finley was acting more and more miserable to I took him into his ped's office. Of course, a double ear infection! :( This is his 3rd ear infection in the past 6 weeks. :( And what makes it worse is that I took him in on Thursday b/c I thought he had an ear infection - he was acting like he did last time he had one. But his ears looked just fine on Thursday - and then on on Monday the ped said they looked horrible. Poor guy. I will definitely have to try to EBM trick in the future. Thanks for the tip! :)
