1st birthday cake/party ideas

Just curious what others have done for cute 1st birthday cakes or parties? We have twin girls with June birthdays. Just looking for ideas. Thanks.

My guys first party was clown themed. The cakes where clown cakes, and my mom dressed as the clown. I guess you can say their second party was clown themed as well, we had it at McD's and the cakes had Ronald on them, which was a clown as well.

On their next bday they are having a Curious George themed party/cake.

 

How about a 1st Birthday BBQ/Pool Party for babies and adults? June is a great time for an outside event. Our guys are June 29 and we are doing a 4th of July theme with some Wiggles thrown in.

Do they have a favorite TV show?

 

All of our kids are really close in age. I also have June babies and a 2 year old. Fun!
We are planning a Cat In The Hat theme for ours. The twins are wearing Thing 1 and Thing 2 t's and my oldest daughter has a cat In The Hat tshirt. The table clothes are primary colors and I got a bunch of stuff (plates, invites, baloons) from Ebay with the theme. The cake is a regular cake with the primary colors and a pop up figure of the Cat In The Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2.
We almost went with prince/princess theme and a zoo theme (only becuase I have really cute apppitizer and dessert ideas for that theme).

 

We're doing an Elmo theme because my girls love Elmo. We have March birthdays, so obviously it will be inside at our house, but if we had summer birthdays we'd definitely do an outside barbecue and go down to the lake (we have lake access with a beautiful beach and park).

 

We are doing a cupcake theme. I bought a cupcake stand, cupcake baloons, ect. It works out so I don't have to make 2 cakes.

 

My girls just recently turned 1 (March 9th) and have butterflies in their room that I stenciled and also butterfly bedding so we just did it around pink/purple butterflies. They each had their own smash cake and a big cake with their intial on it for the adults..It turned out really cute... Here are pics of the girls cake.
