Quick question here. I am having Identicals who share a placenta. I had a 10 week ultra sound at the peri, to verify they werent momo twins...which they arent.

The doctor met with us, and said we would have another ultra sound with them at 18 weeks, then 22 weeks, and go from there. Now i have mommy brain times 4, because I have a two year old, and twins! So I was second guessing myself, whether he said they would see me, or my OB would do the Ultra Sound?

I called the peri, and just scheduled my appt, because last time my OB secretary messed up the appt, and I don't trust her, and I just didnt want this one screwed up. The secretary at the peri's office was asking if I got a slip to schedule the 18 week appt, and what was the US for? I said, no slip, just told me to come back at 18 weeks, for a growth ultra sound. I DONT KNOW WHAT ITS FOR (exact terms)??? So now I am doubting my actions! hahaha.

I do want the US done at the peris, because I am extremely nervous about complications that could arise. I am so sure the peri doc said to come back at 18 weeks...

Anyways, its not a big deal, but I dont want to go there, and get charged for this US, and insurance not cover it. I guess I can tell my OB at my appt next week, and see what they say.

Did I jump the gun, or am I just taking charge of my pregnancy? I just want to get a good look in there to see how things are going...I am sure you all understand.

I would contact both the Peri office AND your OB office & try to get them working in unison! It sounds like there is a lack of communication about who is doing what and when they are doing it, which can be very confusing for you!
I know how important those ultrasounds were to me & my peice of mind, so make sure you get what you want (and what is covered by your insurance).
    Good luck :good:

For my peri appts, my ob had to place a referral. Call your ob and let them know about your peri appt and everything should be fine. When you are there for your appt, try and schedule the next one so you will leave feeling on top of things. You are almost to the point where u/s happen more frequently.

I don't know if this is helpful at all but... when my dd was pregnant with her di/mo twins she would see her peri every other week for U/S and check for signs of TTTS and then the opposite weeks she saw her ob with no u/s. Essentially she saw a doctor every week throughout her entire pregnancy. The peri was more focused on the babies and the ob was more focused on the mother. Since di/mo is a higher risk pregnancy I don't think there is an issue with the extra appointments.. at least there wasn't for her..

Do you need a referral to see your peri? With our insurance I did not need a referral to see my peri, so I just went every 4 weeks or so like he told me to. If you don't need a referral I wouldn't worry about it and go to the u/s with the peri. If you do need one, maybe ask your OB. I know when I saw a peri, the peri did all my u/s and would communicate with my OB. My OB only did reg. appts and checked the heartbeats, etc. My peri was the one that did all the u/s. I would assume your peri is dong the u/s, but you may want to call and see, it should be in your file as to when you should be seen again.

With me my ob's office made the first apt. at 18 weeks and now I go back at 24 weeks and then every month from then on. I scheduled my apt. before I left the office so I was all set when I left my 18 week apt. I would assume the peri would be doing your u/s if he already saw you early in the pregnancy it makes sence for him to follow your pregnancy. You should could call the Peri's office and ask, they'll figure it out. or just go to the apt. the chances of you being charged by your insurance for going to a peri while caring twins is very low, I work in medical billing and if it comes down to it and there's no left over referals from the last visit they can call over to your ob and get one.

I think you'll be ok insurance wise. Your peri will want to see you and US you even if you don't have complications. I've been seeing my peri every 4 weeks for growth US and I have no complications.

My MFM practice requires a referral for the initial appointment - so my OB referred me to them for my 20 week Level II.
After that , the peri would recommend a follow up appointment and give me a slip to take when I checked out for scheduling the next appt (usually 2-4 weeks).

Generally, the way it's gone for me is the OB follows me & just does a quick u/s to check HR's/fluid levels. MFM follows the babies.

Thanks guys. I did see the peri at 10 weeks for an ultra sound, and he did say they would continue to monitor me with ultrasounds. At 18 weeks, they would do the regular ultra sound to check growth, and for any complications - as they do with every pregnancy (usually at 20 weeks). Then if everything was fine, he would still check me at 22 weeks, and then every 2 weeks after that with ultra sounds. Along with going to my OB, for regular checkups.

So when I go to my OB next week, I will tell them I already made the 18 week appt, and see what they say. My insurance is good, so it should all be fine. I just want to make sure I got into the peris office at 18 weeks, cause they are REALLY busy, and I thought if I waited too long, they would be booked. So I did what I thought best.

    Thanks guys!

THIS HAS BEEN A FRUSTRATING EXPERIENCE- Everyone I know is looking to me for answers!! :(
This post brings a very good point up. Maybe the Mothers with more experience in these appointments can help. Im 14 weeks and have had 1 ultrasound, had morning sickness from hell, and now feel so worn out and NOT CONFIDENT with all these different appts, etc.

This is a new experience for me- Shall I just throw the CRAZY LADY hat on and storm my way into the dr ofc demanding to know more specifics or continue to go with the flow (as expected)??

Momma of one - I actually decided to email my peri. He was the director of the practice, and saw me because they thought I had rare Mono-mono twins (I dont tho..phew). So he said if I had ANY questions, to contact him.
I emailed him, and said "Should I be coming in at 16 weeks? I am nervous that what if something is wrong in there, and we are too late at 18 weeks?"
He wrote me back, and said that they are there to keep me happy, and to have a healthy pregnancy. He didnt see a reason to come in earlier then 18 weeks, as he is hopeful I wont have any complications. He said by all means, I can ask my OB to do a quick growth/fluid scan, to check on things, or I could come back to them, and they would do it for me as well. Whatever made me happy!
It was fantastic to hear that. He doesnt see a need to, but if I feel something is wrong, or the need to, then lets do it!
I decided I have an appt with the OB next MOnday, I will talk to them about slipping me in for a growth check. I have ID twins, so there are more complications, since they share a placenta. So chances are, everything is fine, but peace of mind is what I need!
It doesnt hurt to talk to you doctor I have found. With my first singleton pregnancy, I never asked for anything extra, but there was also never a reason for concern or complications.
Follow your gut! The doctors cant get mad that you are being proactive with your pregnancy!

I agree. I would want it coordinated and have them working together.
