DS weighed in at 21 lbs, 10 oz and DD is 20 lb, 10 oz. They hadn't really gained any weight since the last checkup, but the dr wasn't concerned. Everything appears to be good! We did almost get sent for a speech/hearing evaluation, though. He asked me how many words are in DS's vocabulary, and I could only think of 2. But, the dr said that since he seems to be understanding more words & will occasionally say a few more, then there's no need to worry. If he doesn't have about 10 words in the next 2 months, he wants me to call.

So here's a question, then. DS will sometimes pick up a word, but then not say it again for maybe a couple months. DH seems to think that word should then count for his vocabulary......but I said if he's not saying it now, it doesn't count. Which is it??

    Sounds like a great appointment.

I wish I could answer your speach question, we are having some issues here with it. The girls will occasionally say some words or what sounds like a word but nothing really concrete yet so it is a concern. Dr wasn't worried at 15 month appointment. Hopefully your son will find his voice very soon. I would count those words though if he does say them again.

Now I am getting nervous with my twins. My twins only know about 4 words and repeated those to us. That something I want to look into to find out how many words are they supposed to know by at certain age. Because we are a deaf parents our children are hearing. I am a SAHM and have been reading books, teaching them sign language, and have lot of educational toys for them. But this is a good to know how many of us dealing with language skills.

**The pictures of your girls are so BEAUTIFUL!!!!**

If I am not mistaken, your DH is correct. If it is a word they correctly associate with something, then it counts even if they have moved on from that word to something new. Brandon has 2 words at 18mos, "uh oh" and "bye bye", but our dr doesn't get concerned until they are 2 (probably has something to do with the fact he has late talkers himself).

Both of mine say Mummy, Daddy (their favourtie word!), whats that, whos that, oh, ta ta and uh oh. They are the same they occasionally say something and you are like did she just say what i think she said lol. I know Sophie can says Woof as she has done it a few times but refuses to say it now! Its like the novelty has worn off! A lot of my friends that have babies around the same age seem to say a lot more. My best friend sings balamory and back pack ( Dora!). I suspose everyone is different and will learn in their own time x

    for a great appointment.

We go in a few months and I was going to ask my ped about their words too. They say alot of words here and there, but will sometimes "forget" it. They used to say let's go all the time and haven't used it in about a month. I'm not worried but wanted to know if this is normal. I hope they start talking more soon and you can avoid EI.

Well, that makes me feel better just to know he's not the only one who will say something & then "forget" it. Maybe I should ask the dr about counting the forgotten words, b/c that really would make a difference in the #.

On the other hand, dd is a big talker. I made a list the other day of all the words I could think of that she says.....and even since I made it I've remembered about 4 words that aren't on the list, and there were 31 already!! I swear she's going to break out into stories any day.
