I've been a member here since 2005 but for some reason my old ID disappeared :(

This morning when I went to get the boys out of bed they were in RARE form. Cooper decided he wanted to pitch a fit instead of letting me get him out of his crib so I got Eli out first. As I was changing Eli's diaper I looked over and Cooper was half way out of his crib! It was all I could do to get bare butt Eli off the changing table in time to catch Cooper coming over the other side of his crib.

I'm SO not ready for Toddler beds of any kind yet at 18 mos.

I plan on looking at some crib tents today at BRU but just not sure he's going to like it very much.

Any experience or tips to keep him in the crib a bit longer?

Good to see you Steph!! Oh no, I can't believe you have some crib climbers. I would try the crib tents, luckily none of mine have ever attempted to climb out of the crib, so far at least. ;)

Hi Amy!!!! I see you are a moderator! Congrats

I think I'm going to try the tent. Now I just need to decide if I should go ahead and get 2? Eli doesn't bother to climb out but he will probably want a tent. Got to have everything the ohter one has

I only ever had one tent, because one climbed and the other didn't. They are a lifesaver!

Mine learned to climb out at the same age as yours. Crib tents wouldn't work on our cribs and quite frankly, I didn't want to invest the money. So, I just told them over and over again how that was a no no and told each one to tell me if the other tried to climb out. I reinforced it a lot for about a week and was very firm and it stopped. Then, about six months later, it happened again and I went through the same routine. Towards the end (prior to converting their cribs), they knew that they could climb in and out of their cribs only if we were there to spot them. We were fortunate that it worked for us. You may want to try it and see if yours will listen as well before you shell out the money for the crib tents.

    I second the crib tent.

Also if you want to get your old ID back you can probably email Craig at [email protected] for help.

    Welcome back! :)

We didn't use a crib tent on my oldests crib. It was higher in the back then in the front so we just turned the crib backwards. That kept him in for a while longer. My SIL took the bottom metal frame out of the crib and just had the mattress on the ground inside the crib. That gave her an extra 6 months.
Good Luck and I am not looking forward to my guys getting out.

Thanks Steph!! I was wondering what happened to you. :umm:

I agree with Nicole to contact Craig, he can probably get your old ID back. We miss you here!

You may be right about Eli wanting a tent just because Cooper has one too, I know how that goes!

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our crib tents! Trevor started climbing out at 15 months and was nowhere near ready for a toddler bed. I set the tents up at naptime the first day and they didn't nap much because they were too excited about being in the new tents but that was the extent of the adjustment period. We would have had a huge fight if I had set up only one tent and I'm sure Trent would have climbed out soon after his brother did since they copy everything else.

I got crib tents. We went from them throwing their legs over the sides and "threatening" to climb out, to a broken wrist the next day. :( That day, I went out and got the crib tents. I got two because Ainsley was throwing her leg over. I probably would have gotten two anyway just because. They have had no problems with the crib tents, and honestly, it's made bedtime easier. No more throwing stuff out of the crib. We call the crib tents "night night houses" and they like getting in them and having us zip them up.

    Steph,

I'm glad to see you back on here. I went to send you a U2U one day and it said your member had been deleted, I was worried!

Anyways, we bought Lily a crib tent around 13 months. I knew she was close to climbing out, and sure enough anytime we put her in there and don't zip the tent, the foot hikes right over the side at lightning speed.

She loves it! It's fun for her. She presses her face into the mesh for kisses before bed, and she talks and laughs with Grace through it. She's never been bothered by it at all. Grace shows no signs of needing one yet, so just Lily has one.

Crib Tent Question???? Do they work on most cribs? My crib has a high curved back.

Ellen- I wish mine would listen! Ha! Ha! Ha! I will try that if I see him do it again.

Nicole- I sent Craig a few e-mails and he tried to help me. He never could figure out what happened to it. Then I tried to re-register with the same ID and it said my e-mail addy already had an acct. He couldn't find it again? So I gave up and registered again under my work e-mail addy.

Cari- You just gave me and awesome idea!!!! Ours is higher in the back too! Problem is they might be too high for me to reach to get him? I also thought of putting the mattress on the floor b/w the crib but scared he might get caught somehow.

Susan- We both know Cooper and Lily are just alike! I think he would really like it if I got him one know that I've heard so much about it. Now I need to see if it will work on their cribs.

We have basic Jenny Lind style, and we got the Original Crib tent. I don't know for sure they'd work with your cribs though, you might need the Crib Tent II (or something like that). Hopefully others with more your style crib will respond.

The crib tent probably won't work for you. I just looked at the description on Amazon and it says "provided all four sides are of equal height". Sorry! I would try turning the crib around with the high side out. That sounds like a good idea.

Or you can do a "creative installation" like I did... They have a CYA disclaimer in the instructions telling you not to do this but my guys have climbed all over the outside and tugged on the tent and no issues with it moving around for us.

debid- nice installation! I was reading reviews on BRU and there were lots of comments that said the got it to work for odd size beds, etc.

Does the mesh insides go all the way down the mattress so that they can't get their heads stuck b/w the tent and crib sides?

There are two versions. The original has the top and the two short sides covered; the front and back are open. The II (which is what I have) is a full enclosure. The front and back are mesh just like the top and the short sides are semi-sheer fabric like the original. The full enclosure prevents them from putting anything through the slats (solved our issues with stuck legs and lost blankets). The II is more expensive -- I think about $10 -- but so well worth it IMO.

ETA: both versions have a panel under the mattress holding the sides down.

[SIZE=12pt]I am on crib tent #2 with Katie and she's already tore a hole in it so I am taking it off her bed. Joshua climbs out of his bed but comes straight to my bed...Katie does not. She will roam around and get into everything. As much as I try to childproof I still don't want her up roaming around. I thought about toddler beds but I just don't know how bedtime would go with these 2...it's ok now but I like the idea of the cribs knowing they have to at least put forth some effort to get out kwim?

Crib tents are pricey and I am NOT buying a 3rd just to have Miss Houdini tear another hole in one. Don't ask how she did it but the girl tore a hole in the corner, can reach around and push the zipper up enough to get her finger in and unzip it...only my daughter  So I had to take the string off the zipper and tuck the zipper down in the pocket. I sewed the hole back up but she ripped it again sometimes in the last 2 days.

So the crib tent isn't exactly Fort knox but I have a daughter who can get out of anything and will go to unknown lengths to do so. Joshua would never get out of a crib tent nor put forth the effort to try lol But I know he will come straight to my bed and if nothing else lay in the floor and play cars.

We got the crib tent and it worked!

Debid we installed it just like you did and it does just fine.

He actually likes it and we may have to buy a 2nd b/c Eli is jealous.
