18 months and telling me when she poops

Amy has started saying "Amy poop" while she is pooping, but as far as I know, she isn't aware when she needs to poop -- only when she is doing it. Is there any point in getting the potty out and starting to have her sit on it? She does tend to poop at the same time every day -- I suppose there's a chance she would poop on the potty, but I really doubt she would "get it." If she did, it would be accidental.

DH is rarin' to go on this potty training thing -- I would rather wait till they're older and can get it over with more quickly. I just don't see any point in spending the next year having them sit on the potty. WWYD?

Your girls are about the same age as mine and we've been putting them on the potty for a few months now. At 15 months, the ped recommended to DH that the girls come into the bathroom when I go. First, they would play in the bathroom with the bath time toys and then(and still) they wanted to sit on my lap. After a couple weeks, Katie wanted to go potty, which meant just sitting on it at first. At 17 months, she told me "potty poo-poo" and I put her on the potty and she actually did it! Jessica is starting to get it, but will tell me she has to pee just before she lets go, which has meant a wet bathroom rug a few times. There are days they both seem to have a potty aversion and days we're heading to the bathroom constantly, but we're letting them lead the way.

I would go with your instincts on this. If you really think you should wait, I would wait. Not only does she have to be ready, but you do too, and if your not able to give it the time it might take at this age, then your better off waiting IMO. Plus, I have read several places that once they start showing signs of readiness, don't jump into it. Give them a couple more months and then start trying. IHTH. :)
