My DS went to a late nap yesterday at 4:30pm. Woke up for about 30 mins at 9:30 for a PB&J. He fell right back to sleep and slept until 6:30am.

Tonight, looks like he is going to do the same thing, actually he asked for his nap at 4:30. Still asleep at 8. I keep checking on him to make sure he's breathing.

He's eating fine, playing like usual, no fever. No indication of getting sick and is a sweet boy during the day which is wonderful.

Should I be worried you think?

Lilly will sometimes sleep 14 hours at night. Have you tried putting him down earlier for a nap?

    Wow.

    I don't know.

Mine haven't napped since before they turned 3 period. And sleep only about 10-11 hours at night.

    BUT.

When they did nap, their nap was earlier. When they took a 4:00 nap -- which only happened when they were really young, that one went first of the three -- I never would let them sleep past say 6 PM.

Maybe an earlier nap? And then he won't need the 4:30 nap.

But then again, let me say, my girls NEVER asked for a nap. Never ever never. Didn't happen. Count your blessings. :)

Yeah, fights it like a demon. Will not stay in his room etc. Granted this is only day 2 of this.

DH thinks it may be coming down from a sugar high from birthday cake we had from DH's day on Tuesday and leftovers yesterday and today. Its all gone so he thinks all will be back to normal tomorrow.

    I don't buy that though.

I would say he's either growing or getting sick...if this isnt normal for him. Or maybe he just still needs a nap...I guess I'm not that helpful! LOL

Our girls still nap, they put up one heck of a fight though. I put them in their room around 1 and stay close to their room so I can remind them to be quiet, they sleep for about 2 hrs still. If they dont nap they are terribly tired and little monsters by 5....it may be terrible but I sometimes bribe the little monkeys......with an activity or special movie if they'll go to sleep!!

I would say give him one more day to see what he does. If he still doesnt seem to be getting sick..maybe try to get him to nap earlier.

glad to hear i'm not the only mom bribing them to take a nap with a special night out or something we'd do anyway. they didn't go down till 220 today, and normally they are out by 130. they are pushing that nap time back and I can't have them sleeping past 3-330 or they are up till past 9pm. i'm wondering if it's time to start dropping the naps?

I don't mean to hijack this post. 12 hrs is average total sleep at 3 yo according to Ferber's book. if he has always needed more than "average" sleep then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Well our kids are almost 3 and they sleep about 11.5 hours at night and take about 1.5-2 hr nap. So they sleep 13-14 hours a day. I'm not sure if that's standard but it's normal for our kids. So if it's normal for him don't worry about it. It could be just a growth spurt of he could genuinely be tired.
