As I go to post this, my dd is talking in her crib, so I don't have time to search to see if this has been asked/answered already, so I apologize if it has! :D

Mine are nearly 14 months, we switched to 1 nap about a month ago because of my older kids baseball schedules. The twins were going to end up missing their second nap of the day, so I figured I'd transition them a bit early.

I would love their nap to last 1.5-2 hrs, but most of the time one or both wake up after 1 hr! They do sleep great at night, 11-12 hrs.

So how long were yours sleeping at night and at naptime at this age? I've even resorted to turning their lullabies on to repeat so they play constantly during nap, and even that isn't helping all the time! I think only twice have they napped the 1.5-2 hr mark! :p

we didn't switch to one nap a day until the girls were almost 17 months old. at 14 months they were still doing 2 naps a day for a total of 3.5 - 4.5 hours of nap time + 11 - 12 hours at night. so that's not much help. :unknw:

We are still at 2 naps a day at 14 mths. They usually sleep 2-3 hrs total during the day and 10-11 at night. On days when we have to skip the morning nap due to scheduling conflicts with my oldest, they generally only nap 2 hours max. I wish they could just consolidate the 2-3 hrs and do 1 long nap, but it doesn't seem to work that way with them.

Even at 2 naps a day, their morning naps was 1 hr and their afternoon was 45-60 mins. <_< I didn't mind that at all, but like I said they were going to have to miss their afternoon nap 3 days a week, and those days were very LONG days without that second nap. They are doing great going from 9:30-10am in the morning when they get up, until 2pm when they nap. They are up between 3:15-3:30 and go to bed around 9:30-10pm. They are definitely ready for bed by then, that's why I'm trying to get that nap extended, the few times they slept until 4-4:15 they were much less grouchy by bedtime!

on the days they have the shorter naps, is it possible to put them to bed a little bit earlier? maybe that'll help avoid some evening grumpiness?

I transitioned to one nap a day when mine were 14 months old. It was tough at first, but after two weeks of problems, it settled down. It was the best thing I ever did for my own sanity. One nap, albeit short, is the best thing for my schedule and, as it turns out, theirs. So mine sleep approximately from 8:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. and then from 12:00 until 2:00ish. The odd day it's longer and some days its shorter. I guess that means they sleep 13 hours on average. My daughter requires less sleep than my son so her nap is usually shorter than his but I leave her in her crib until he gets up most days.

We went to one nap a day at about 15 months adjusted age/17 months real age. I feel your pain. Most of the time they will sleep for at least 1.5 hours, usually 2 hours. However, I make them stay in their cribs for at least 2.5 hours. Sometimes they fall back asleep, other times they just sit and talk for the remaining time. I do this for my sanity. I need a break. I'm hoping it also communicates to them that I'm going to come get them when I decide to, not when they wake up. Depending on when they wake up, I've started adjusting their bed time. Hope that helps!

I went to one nap at 15 months and when it first started out, they were at an hour and it took a couple of weeks for them to make it stretch longer.
The only thing I can think of is on short nap days to put them to bed earlier if possible. That's what I did when my two were taking too short naps.
I hope they start sleeping longer for you soon!

:give_rose: thanks ladies! I do try to put them to bed a bit earlier on their short nap days, the way bedtime falls for the 4 kids, and when hubby gets home from work, I don't want to get them used to going to bed too early or hubby won't get to see them (leaves at 5am for work, gets home at 7pm).

Hopefully they'll start sleeping a bit longer...maybe! I do try to leave them in their bed until 4pm, that's 2 hrs, but if they are screaming I go ahead and get them up! Doesn't help that sometimes my older kids accidentally wake them up, and then they are both crying/grouchy but refuse to go back to sleep! :aggressive:

Yeah my guys did/do the same thing since switching to 1 nap. It's weird because during the week, they'd almost never sleep more than an hour for the nanny, but were so overtired by bedtime that they were miserable. We'd put them down early on those days, but I still didn't feel like they were getting enough sleep. Then on weekends they'd sometimes have these marathon "comas" where they'd sleep for 3-4 hours! We went to the ILs for Easter and Jack slept for 4 hours in their guest room!

We installed blackout shades this past weekend, and they have been taking 2 hour naps this week, so I'm hoping we have our solution (fingers crossed). Maybe this is a stupid question, but do you have white noise and blackout shades in their room? My guys sleep a lot lighter in the daytime, so I'm finding out that I need to do a bit more work to make their naptime quiet and dark.

Good luck and I hope their naps get longer soon!

Valerie as soon as it started getting lighter out, I put up aluminum foil and poster board over their window! It's almost as dark in there during the day as it is at night! And yep, fan running, and lullabies playing! :D

Stinkers slept 70 mins today, woke up happy but were so fussy/tired within 2 hrs! My son was supposed to have baseball tonight so I couldn't put them down for a second nap, and then baseball was cancelled as a wicked thunderstorm/tornado watch came over us! So the babies went to bed an hour earlier than normal! Let's hope they don't get up an hour early in the morning now! :faint:

Haha, Danielle I thought I remembered that you were the one with the aluminum foil, but I had to ask. I should have known better.

I hope they slept in for you this morning!

Would you believe the little rats were exhausted last night, so we put them to bed about 45-50 mins early. They slept 13 hrs last night, and then took an almost 2 hr nap for MIL while I took my older ds to the dr this afternoon! :faint: What the heck?!

So we're going to try putting them to bed earlier at night for a few nights and see if it backfires by them waking up too early in the morning! We shall see! :p
