Hi. Can anyone tell me if theyve experienced this? I had a csection 12 days ago and the first 10 nights I had the night sweats. Now the past 2 nights, I wake up shivering, teeth chattering for at least 1/2 hour. Its scary. I also feel fine one minute and then all the sudden I feel flulike symptoms. Is this hormones? I'm pumping and have a lot of milk, is it related?

    Bless your heart!!
it may be just hormones , they can do strange things to a person - but I would call your dr. this morning just to get their opinion!

    congratulations on your babies!!!!!

:hug99: s! It is hormones. I did not bf my first 2 and never experienced this. But I did bf Josh and the twins for a short period and had the worst night sweats/chills. I would wake up completely soaked, and FREEZING! It lasted for a couple of weeks from what I remember.

I had such bad night sweats i would sleep on and under beach towels because my bed would be drenched. Then I would be freezing. My ob told me that its because your estrogen in so low. Which is also because of breastfeeding. I was really worried about it too. It lasted about a months for me. This too shall pass!!! Hope it feels better soon!!

Please call your doctor. I know my situation is not very common, but I ended up with a very serious infection from my c section. Just be safe and call your doctor to get it checked out.

I had those chills really bad too! It was awful. For me, it's always a sign that my body is fighting something off. 2 weeks after delivering I got a UTI and kidney infection. It was miserable. Pay attention to your body--if you feel like you're getting some kind of infection, call your doctor ASAP!! I alternated fever/chills for days before I went to the Dr. which was so dumb! Don't make my mistake!

    MASTITIS MAYBE????

It is possible you have a clogged duct or something that is either infected or getting there. Mastitis is known to cause flulike symptoms. Any breast tenderness or pains???

My guess would be mastitis as well, or some other kind of infection. I'd suggest calling your doctor ASAP. When I had mastitis, I didn't realize that's why I felt so awful, because my breasts didn't hurt that much more than usual, but it turned out I had a fever -- as soon as I took some Tylenol (even before the antibiotics kicked in), I felt much better.

I had night sweats really bad for a few weeks or more, and I think I do remember getting the shivers a few times also. I also had a c-section, and also breastfeed. Think it's just crazy hormones! Hang in there!

When in doubt call your doc, that is what they are there for!!! It would stink if its mastits, UTI, etc and you get sicker, so please call. I hope it is just hormones.

I just wanted to say that I am in the exact same boat right now. I am 12 days post c/s and I have been getting the sweats and chills at night. I thought it was from not having the pain meds anymore but it seems like it is pretty common. I am also breast feeding and with all this milk, hard boobs, and sweating it doesn't make for any good sleep. I hope it gets better.

It's probably hormones. I remember having the same thing happen to me. The sweats/chills lasted a couple of weeks.

I have also had mastitis & it is miserable. You do get flulike aches & tiredness, but also fever & quite a bit of pain in the breast. I couldn't even stand for my baby to touch my breast it was so painful. It definitely wouldn't hurt to check with your doctor though, better safe than sorry! Mastitis left untreated can lead to an abcess that requires hospitilization. I hope you feel better soon! :hug99:

Sounds totally normal to me. Iexperienced this both times I BFed and also early on in both of my pregnancies. I would shake so hard I would have to have Dh wrap his arms around me and hold me down this also helped me warm up... also try putting on a dry shirt right away this will help you warm up. Part of this is just because your body is working so hard producing milk and recovering from pg. Try having your DH hold you very tightly and rub you to warm up. I also agree that it is very scary when you are shaking so hard. Hope I helped a little.

Thank you everyone so much. When I took the babies to the pediatrician this morning, the nurse checked my temp and it was 102. Went to ob/gyn and I have mastitis. He put me on antibiotic that wont affect my breastmilk. Good news is the babies gained a ton of weight, both are over 5lbs now!
