My 11 month old boy was doing great at night and sleeping about 11 hours a stretch. He was getting up around 5 or 5:30 am for a bottle, but then would go down for another hour or so. Then the stomach flu hit, and while he's healthy again, he's now waking and crying in the middle of the night (3 or 4 am) for a bottle. How do we get him back to his later wake up time?!! I would hate to have to do cry it out at this age, but I can't figure out how else to keep him down. Any advice would be much appreciated!

His sister sleeps through without a problem...but she's been that way since they were 3 months!!

It sounds like he is waking up and has gotten used to a bottle to help him fall back to sleep. He might need to "re-learn" to help himself back to sleep. If you do cry it out - that is not a bad thing. That's how babies work things out and is safe at 11 months. my boys are almost 9 months, and i did cry it out for the first time the other night. My boys seemed to wake up once or twice in a night and would need help falling back to sleep (i.e. - we would hold them). We've been doing this for a while, and it is time that they work it out themselves. They cried, and it was tough to let them learn - but they fell asleep, and now the past few nights since then, one might wake up once and only cry for a few minutes, then he falls back to sleep. I guess this is the first time that we need to take a step back as parents and let our babies do something on their own, as hard as it can be :) Good luck!

I would agree that he's probably waking looking for some middle of the night comfort. My guys go through this every time they are sick and we have to start from scratch with sleep training. I wouldn't be afraid to let him cry it out if you are comfortable with that. Another alternative is to go in and give him a cuddle instead of a bottle for a few nights, and then drop the cuddling.

Ditto the other ladies! He's used to that bottle/comfort. I would do CIO again as well. I remember reading many posts about parents having to do CIO multiple times due to illnesses, traveling and getting back on schedule, teething, etc.

I hope he's back to STTN soon!
