Now that it is cold/rainey/snowy outside, how do you fill the day & keep them happy and occupied?

We read, they have toys to play with and most of the time they play together. At this age, they play a lot more independently and don't need me involved (unless someone is trying to hurt someone else...).

What toys do they enjoy the most? We have a good amount of toys but they are growing out of some of them.

I try to make sure I rotate our toys. I have 3 crates of baby toys, and every week, I take a new one out, and the other 2 are in the closet. That way it is new and fun. At this age my babies love baths, so sometimes if they seem bored we'll take a bath, they love playing in there. The other thing I do that occupies them is give them new finger foods to try, or give them toys to play with in their high chairs. It seems more fun to sit there and hit the toy on the tray I guess. Other than that, I'm not sure. Waiting to see what other's say.

We rotate our stash of toys too. We have things like the stacking rings, stuffed animals, drums that play music, rattles, keys, water bottles, blankets, remotes (Sophia loves remotes!).

Out of all the toys my boys have their favorites are big plastic spoons & bowls with lids ( toys inside hiding). We take those spoons everywhere! Also, they love when we stack blocks & they knock them down over & over!

We read books, sing, roll a ball, play patty cake/peek a boo/etc move around to different rooms of the house (change of scenery plus there are different toys in different rooms), play on the floor, and they still love their exersaucers!

Favorite toys/things to play with include: nesting cups, nesting blocks (they LOVE to watch me build a tower and then they knock it down), Ocean Wonders Aquarium with 3 little fish, balls, Little People school bus, tupperware, measuring cups and spoons, bowls, and other kitchen stuff!

They absolutely LOVE playing ball with me. We'll sit in somewhat of a circle (my 4-year-old plays too) and just roll the ball back and forth between all of us. They also love those cars that you pull back on and then they go forward. They try to push the car back to me - it is really cute to watch them.

Pretty much the same as the other pps. They love anything they can put things into - play cubes and boxes. We have a tunnel from my daughter's tent and the love crawling through and looking at each other throiugh it. Our weather is gorgeous here now and am having a playpen made - coming tomorrow - so can dump them in it outside to play!

Ditto!!! I was about to type it out and saw that Nancy did the work for me :)

In addition they loved tupperware or other things that weren't considered toys. We rotated them through activities too. These activities included helping mommy fold laundry or mommy cooking show (put them in high chairs with some bowls, spoons or a mesh feeder and sippy- and narrate the cooking process!). We also put music on a lot of danced around (well I danced and they hung on!).

Here are a couple of activities:

    1) Take 3 different types of toys (ex.:rattle, stuffed animal, keys). Tie one end of a long piece of yarn to the toys and the other to the high chair. Buckle the babies in the high chair so they don't try to climb out after the toys! LOL! Set the toys on the tray. Show the babies each toy. Then drop the toys off of the tray. Have them pull up the yarn to see which toy they get. After a few times, begin asking them to find a certain toy. Make it a game. See who can find their rattle first, etc.

    2) Play hide and seek with toys. Hide a toy and have them take turns finding it.

One more I just found: (also promotes organization and cleaning skills) Get 2 different color containers (like red and blue), then get 3 blue cars and 3 red cars. Have them sort which ones go in which container. You won't believe how much they like to "pick up" if they think it's a game! LOL! Also, try homemade playdough, paint with pudding (they can finger paint or brush paint), I have a great playdough recipe if you want it- just pm me, dress up, what kind of animal am I?, making finger foods for snack time (use cookie cutters to cut out toast shapes), swimming in the tub (actually let them put on their bathing suits to play in the tub instead of usual bath time to make it different), jello jigglers, make a book just for them with pictures of them, pets, family members, favorite toys, etc., to read (you can use construction paper, pictures from magazines, photos, drawn pictures, etc. and laminate the book. Tie it together with yarn.), and basically what PP have said! HTH!

Like the others we rotate toys and scenery throughout the house. Luckily the weather here is still nice, but the car is in the garage, and our mall and library both have parking garages so we still try to get out at least every other day even when the weather is bad. The boys love to see other people and people watching is one of their favorite activities.
