Suddently DD1 has decided 3 oz is all she wants from a bottle, even when she first wakes up after 12 hours without food she will only eat between 3-5 oz. previously they had been taking in about 24-27 oz per day, now DD1 is down to 18-20 oz and that's a struggle(and that includes the formula I mix in her solids)... they are eating 3 good meals (cereal, fruits, veggie, yogert, meats t/o the day) but nothing has changed recently in that department.

why isnt' she thirsty anymore? I've tried a sippie cup but the second she tastes formula she turns away and clamps her lips shut.. i don't really want to switch to milk so soon, I feel like they need nutrients from formula still.

anyone else experience this, i thought it was just a temporary phase but it's been more than a week now....

My DS is 10 months old and is doing the same thing. His pediatrician told me that it wasn't a cause for concern at all. He said he's probably beginning the weaning process now that he's eating 3 solid meals a day, and I should just give him the amount of formula he's interested in taking and not try to force more on him. I'm sure there are differing opinions on this, but for what it's worth, he said there is no minimum amount I should be trying to get him to drink at this age. The right amount is the amount he wants to take.

I think it is totally normal. Try dropping a bottle if you havent already and call the Ped and see if he or she has a recommended daily amount for you to try and attempt.

It may just be normal, but if she has been crying or stopping quickly, you might want to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection. Mine both got ear infections at the same time, and they would only take enough milk to not starve. Hope it's not, though!

I would call your pedi and let them know. I had the exact same problem with my girls, and as a result they didn't really gain any weight b/w 9 and 12 months. They just lost interest in formula and drinking in general. I've had a much easier time since they are on table food now. My pedi said that the more food they eat then the less milk that they need.

 I would definitely let your pedi know if this continues, and maybe see if you can start table foods for the calories.

My two started doing this at 9 months, and the ped recommended switching to milk and sippies. We were off bottles and formula at 10 months.

My two dropped 2 bottles before they turned 8 months. They eat 2 solid meals a day (veg+meat or fish and a fruit puree) plus a full bottle for breakfafst and before bed. I offer water in sippy cups.

I´d say they are probably ready for weaning. I´d call your pedi, as another poster has said. GL!

how do you transition to a sippie cup? the girls don't hold a bottle, so am I supposed to follow them around all day long trying to get them to take sips from the sippie cup??

i'm stressing b/c the AAP recommends 24-32oz of formula daily and she is only getting about 15.... i hate this feeling like you are doing something wrong... i know it's a new mother stress but i feel like it's my responsibility to get enough nutrition into her and I'm failing.....

 You aren't failing. My pediatrician recommends 16-20oz, beginning at 9 months. Have you tried a sippy with her?

Mine did that too! I called my pedi's office and told them she eats 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks and has about 10oz of formula and 6oz of water a day.
They said as long as what she is eating is HEALTHY and that she is not LOSING weight then its fine. As they get closer to the 1 year mark formula is no longer the main source of nutrition. ONce they switch to cows milk they recommend no more than 16oz a day.

My little ones use straw sippy cups and love them. I give formula in the cup 3x a day for my DD and the other its water. My DS is still BFing so he just gets water in his cups.

GL and dont worry! Just feed her often and healthy!

I feel your pain here! My dd is now doing the same thing... gets really really fussy when I try to bf... and isn't really interested in a bottle either. Some of the times she does this I think she's just tired. So I am hoping that we can work through this. But I'm glad to read everything that was written here. They are 9 months old and I go next week for their 9 mo check up so I'll be asking lots of questions. And hopefully I'll be able to figure out what's up before that visit.

They told me at the 6 mo. visit to try sippy cups and I haven't had much luck with this... guess I need to try harder.

I've given them sippie cups with valves and they will suck them a little but but like to just chew on the spout but not drink it. and I've tried only in the high chairs. If they dont' have the valve I can pour some water in their mouths and they will swallow but they can't coordinate it themselves.

I just bought some sippies with the straw spout so I'm hoping they might like to drink from that. It seems like when they taste the formula they don't want it... maybe they just don't like the taste of nutramigen now that they are having "real" food....
