My girls are 10 months old this week and still having a hard time with moving from pureed foods. I started moving them to Stage 3 for veggies and fruit - to tell the truth, I can't see a difference from stage 2. Anyway - I keep trying to introduce mashed foods - avacados, carrots, potatoes and they gag. I've tried offering puffed rice - 1 does OK, the other gags.

What am I missing? Any suggestions? I know they won't be eating mush for life but there is so much more good food out there and they're stuck on mush. [IMG]

I feel like i could have written your post, i was thinking the same thing yesterday, they are only interested in Cookies as far as foods other than stage 2's. they don't much care for bananas mushed up either, i just keep introducing things and hoping they will adjust.

Have you tried the Stage three meat dishes w/ noodles? If that is still too chunky mix it with a similar stage 2 flavor. Have you tried the Gerber puffs? They are pretty sweet and might get them interested. Are they interested in what you eat?

mine had a hard time with it at first.....I just stuck with it and tried introducing new things all the time (I still am). Eventually they will adjust.....mine still struggle a little with the 3rd foods which is funny to me because they can eat pizza and cookies. Oh well! The gerber puffs really helped my kids at first.

I was in the same boat. I just backed off for about a month and started again with textures and they did just fine. I couldn't believe when they didn't want/couldn't handle meat sticks at 10 months...but at 11, they did great.

Stage 3's still cause them grief. I just make my own finger food now and they only do a jar every once in awhile.

Try try again! Mine were the same way. They would gag at something and a few days later love it. My girls don't really like the stage three foods with the pastas in them. They will not eat them, just the fruits and veggies. I just moved on to giving them what we are eating and they like that much better. I keep a few jars in the house for the days I can't get to making food!

Mine were on all table food at 9 months and love steak!

I know how you feel. My girls are turning 1 in a week and still on baby food. We are still adjusting to puffs but still gag on them. I guess it just takes longer for some kids, they will eventually get it...

Just keep trying, eventually they'll like it. Mine had a hard time with chunks/textures at first but we just had to plug away and keep offering it.

I never gave them stage 3 baby food, I just moved right to table food. They've been eating whatever we eat for a good 2 months now.

I also agree with the Gerber puffs. Those should help.

Thanks ladies - I guess we just get used to gags. I gave them stage 3 beans with rice today and you know they choked on every grain. Ugh! I can't even dream of feeding them steak at this point. I guess some kids need more time to get the chewing thing down. I appreciate the suggestions.

I'm so glad to see your post!
My two still won't eat much textured stuff either. I didn't push with the stage two either. My gut instints tell me they'll let me know when they're ready. They really didn't start eating strained foods consistently until last week. So I wouldn't worry, they'll get it and they'll let you know. I've recently tried thickening up their rice cereal in hopes of preparing them for thicker textures. Syani will eat right off my plate, while Eve turns her nose up to anything not offered on a spoon.
    Good luck....they'll get it eventually.

  13. I have been told by lots of people that their children do not like or gag at Stage 3 foods. I think it has to do with the combo of pured and chunky foods. I find that my boys are expecting pureed and then the chunky bits throw them off. As for the textures, just keep trying. My guys will eat some textured stuff and spit others back at me. One thing that works almost EVERY time is to eat my dinner in front of them. They ALWAYS want what is on my plate. Often the first few bites are spit out but they keep coming back for more so I try again. The other night Aaron spat back mac and cheese at me 4 times before he ate it and now he eats it like a pro. I didn't force it but becasue I was eating it, he WANTED it. Just be patient. It will just click one day.

A few weeks ago I just stopped giving them baby food. Too expensive. DD was still a little gaggy with chunkier foods. I started buying canned veggies and mashing them with a fork or small food processer. I didn't give them much of a choice and it only took a few days to get them eating better. I thought it would never happen! Now they eat small pieces of a lot of different foods. They still don't have teeth (only 1) so they still eat mainly soft foods. The only baby food they get is the fruits.
