We're thinking of getting the kids bikes for their birthday. I took them to the store & the 12" are just a bit too big, I think. Walmart had some that were 10", but I didn't like the bikes. They seemed really cheap & the pedals were very stiff. They do awesome on their tricycles, but one of them isn't ours & has to go back to the owners soon.......which is why we were thinking of getting the bikes. I guess 10 inchers are harder to find than I thought, though.......toysrus.com didn't have any.

I saw a few 10" bikes on Amazon princess, diego, radio flyer. The boys just got 10" Thomas bikes from TRU for their bday.

Our neighbor just got her son a 12inch for his 3rd birthday and both him and Emma are able to ride it well, Jake isn't so great at pedaling yet. I think I am going to go with the 12 for their bdays in June.

Wow! My girls are on 16" bikes!! We went everywhere looking for bikes and I remember seeing some really small ones (perhaps they were 10") at walmart and toys'r'us. We bought ours at a speciality bike store and it was the smallest they had so I would guess that walmart would be your best bet.

We went from tricycles to 16" bikes at age 4. At age 6 Jonathan moved up to a 20". Marcus, now at almost 7, is ready for the 20" as well. Like Angie, we went to a bike store for ours. Personally, I would keep them in the trikes for another year. Someone once pointed out they don't get their kids the small "bikes" because they can't be seen over from a car, and if they went into the street they could more easily be hit. There is plenty of time for them to ride "big kid" bikes, there really is no need to rush it.

As big as that may seem...they will last longer with the 12 inch than the 10 inch. And with training wheels, they are fine on them (at least mine are).

TRU has 10" too. John just got rid of his 12" and got a 16" finally this year for his 7th birthday. He is really short though. He used his 10" for about 2 years.

We got our girls 12 inch bikes for their 3rd birthday. We spent a lot of time looking at various specialty bike shops in addition to checking out the selection at TRU, Target, and Walmart before getting their bikes from a specialty shop. The ones we got are really sturdy bikes and we should get a good resale price for them when we are finished with them.

I would recommend at least looking at a specialty bike store if there is one in your area. The sales people at every store we went to were really knowledgeable and gave us a lot of tips about getting the proper size.

Thanks everyone! I ended up getting them 12" ones from TRU ...... the only ones I saw that were smaller just looked terrible & like they would tip. With the seat & handle bars all the way down, I think they'll be ok.
