We are 1.5hrs drive to hospital, doctors say there will be plenty of time but I am getting nervous about the drive. I have a feeling labor will come on quickly for me. My pregnancy has been really smooth, etc.. and I am still getting around, running around doing things, etc..

There is a hotel right across the street from the hospital and we could go and check in and just relax and wait for a while. What do you think?

Well, I can only tell you from experience and we did not have to drive 1.5 hrs to a hospital but by the time I got there it was almost two hours later. My water broke at 6am but I didn't leave for the hospital until almost 7:30am. I had to pack a bag and my SD had to be taken to her Grandmom's, I also took a shower so by the time I was checked by the doctor it was after 8am. I didn't get an epidural until 3 in the afternoon so yes, I did have time, however, labor is different for everyone but you should be fine. If you feel safer staying at the hotel that week, why not, but what if you don't go on your EDD...GL!

From my experience, get the room!!! I was luckily already in the hospital with pre-e, because mine were born about 45 minutes after my water broke. We live just over an hour away and my DH didn't make it in time :pardon:

My labor was very fast. My girls were born (c-section) 1.5 hours after my water broke. We were at the doctor's office within an hour & I was dilated to 8. By the time we crossed the street to the hospital I was at 9. This was the first time I was in labor, so I had no idea what to expect. I thought it would probably last for days. I think my doctor was surprised too!!

Wow I don't know. Both of my labors progressed rapidly after my water was broken as well, but then again it did not break on it's own either. Everyone is sooo different as is every pregnancy. I would say just go to be on the safe side. It will be your last mini vacation for quite some time I am sure :D Good luck and let us know what you decide to do.

[SIZE=10pt]Another vote for the hotel room.

My DD decided she was coming out...foot first  (When the nurse and doctor checked me they could feel her foot) She broke her water with her foot and they were born within 2 hours. I was SO glad that I was checked into the hospital that afternoon with pre-e symptoms. There was construction around our house and the roads were detoured. A normal 10 minute ride to the hospital would have taken over half an hour <_<

As pp said "This may be your last mini-vacation" ~

    April :)

I'm going to be in a similar situation later down the road. The hospital I'm thinking of going to beacuse its the closest one with a NICU is a little over more than 2 hours away and in another state! Hoping my insurance will be covered over there, still need to see.
Please let us know how it goes and what you've decided. Good luck!

I'd also say get the hotel room. Doctors have no way of determining how fast or slow you will be. A friend of mine had her twins in less then an hour. They were her first pregnancy. My babies were my third pregnancy and waters broke on their own but contractions didn't start until 20 hours later. I had munchkins within 4 hours.
Its better to be safe then sorry. Good luck!!!

I always had plenty of time but even a 40 minute ride to the hospital seemed like an eternity - I second the mini vacation thing, that would be nice but how long would you have to be there? are your drs going to let you go on your own? or do you have a date that they won't let you go past? At that point in all 4 of my pregnancies, I would have had the same worries yet been much more comfy at home - arranging and rearranging and rearranging my baby stuff - and sleeping in my oversized recliner instead of the bed. I think it boils down to whatever you are comfortable doing!! GOOD LUCK!!

So, we decided that we are going to head up to the hotel next to the hospital. We are ready to have these babies and maybe if I can get out of the house and away from all of my todo lists and focus on just having the babies, we will have them. I am definately concerned about the drive. We live in Vermont where the roads are winding and dark at night. We have someone coming to pick up our dogs today and we will leave this afternoon.

We are 37 weeks today and everything looks good. We have a doctors appointment Monday so will know more about a date, etc.. If they check me and say I am no dialated or anything, maybe we will come home knowing that things may not progress so quickly. Or we will stay up there a little longer. I have had gestational diabetes so the babies were growing quickly. I have managed it well with diet so their growth has been at a better rate. They are keeping a close eye on me.

They do not let you go past 39 weeks normally at this hospital unless, of course, there are issues to be concerned about. They also checked me for cholestasis which we will know about on Monday.

We will keep you posted but maybe once we check into the hotel and relax, they will arrive!! : )

I would get a room.. Just in case. You dont want something to happen.. What if something in wrong with the roads and it takes longer?

It took about 45 mins to get to the hospital when i went but my water didnt break. I was just having contractions.. LOTS of them!!

GL!! Those babies are comming soon!

I can only tell you about my labor with my singleton. My water broke at 41w and my contractions started hard and fast (I was 3 cm dilated since 37w). I only had a 10 min. drive to the hospital, but it was a hard 10 min. There is no way I would have been able to ride 1.5 hours in the car to the hospital.
