Ive heard lots of good things about 1-2-3 magic.
I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the book they would like to loan me or sell to me?
I also wondered if you all would share your experience with it or hit the highlights. Thanks!

I got the dvds from the library. I haven't actually watched them yet. I figured I was more likely to watch the dvd than read the book. You could try getting the book at your local library.

we watched a VHS version of a seminar on Magic 1-2-3 and it was good. it was a good way to get both my dh and myself to watch it together. we'd never read a book together. ours was at our local library too!

I had pretty good success with 123 Magic from 21 months - 28ish months. Now at 2 1/2 they will ignore 1 and stop at 2 3/4 so I've stopped using it.

I've had much better success with the Super Nanny approach. If they are doing something I don't want them to do I will say "Jake, we don't hit the car, if you do it again you'll go in T/O".

Whatever method you use, the most important thing is to be consistant. I never give them threats. They know if I ask them not to do something and they do it, they are going to T/O.

I got mine from Half.com for pretty cheap. I also got the audio version there (for DH). It works well for us.

I'm about half way through it, I'll let you know what I think when I'm done! So far, I found some of the suggestions useful and some that just has not worked yet.

I just took a copy out of the library. Like others, there were some things that were useful, and others not so much. I don't follow 1-2-3 Magic to the letter right now, but I do give a warning before a TO. It seems to work for my girls because one warning is usually enough to stop the insanity (unless they are tired/cranky/in a mood/hungry/etc etc )

I picked up a copy at a consignemnt shop for $2 I think. Havent read it yet - we are going on vacation next week and I am bringing it with me. It looks like I got a slightly older version - not sure what I might be missing out on from the latest version.

I started using 1-2-3 magic before they turned 2 and it works great for when you want them to STOP doing someting. Now my issue is getting them to START doing something (come here, put something down, eat, etc) for which you are NOT supposed to use the counting method. And of course I only read the first part and for the past week or so I've been doing it all wrong...I need the DVD version! :)

The book says you can count any START activity that takes 2 minutes or less to complete. So I do count when I say come here and they don't. It works well.

Ok so I went to the library and got the video. Now to watch it.
I can tell you Ive been counting to my kids for so long that when I start counting, they finish LOL so Im not sure how helpful it will be.
I say "one", then another little voice says "two", then the next voice says "three" then I say " come here right now" LOL. not very helpful but they have learned to count to 5!

I got it and it works pretty well for my girls. I don't use everything in the book though, just some of it. I don't use the techniques other than counting.

Instead of just counting, I say "That's one....that's two....that's three, time out." It seems to help them understand that I'm not just counting for the sake of counting. I also show the numbers on my fingers so if they are screaming and can't hear my counting, they can see it.

yep, that's how they say to count "that's one" etc. and then to ignore them during the time out, right?

my fil is horrible at it... he tries to talk to them and cheer them up during the TO... UGH!!! I hope you figure it out and it works for you! My nanny doesn't do the 1-2-3 like i'd like... she tries more "positive" reinforcements... and I think that the 1-2-3 doesn't work as well for us now... of course neither does the positive ones either... I tried this past weekend to reinstitute TO's... and put both of them in many many on Sunday... but I think its hard in our case b/c there are 2 different styles happening...
