starting bedrest

    I am on my first week of bedrest. My cervix is at 1.6cm. I'm expecting mono/di girls. Does sitting up still put pressure on the cervix? Should I be laying down as much as possible? I am 27wks and 2 days

    How are your girls positioned? sitting up can put pressure on the cervix if one of the babies is sitting on it (gotta love the pull of gravity). If your sitting up, try to position yourself with some pillows to keep more of an angle so your not fully up. I got put on strict bedrest at week 27 too and laying all the time wasnt an option because my heartburn was so bad i would puke at times, so i had to do a bit of compromising. Good luck and welcome to bedrest. it aint fun but you can do it!

    Thank you! Both of my girls are head down. I was sitting up a lot yesterday and my pelvic area got really sore. So...I'm trying to lay down more.

    Lay on your side as much as possible...especially your left side as this enhances blood flow to the uterus...

    I 2nd that. Avoid sitting up as much as possible. To force myself to stay on my left side, I have put my laptop to my left! It works for me.

    I spent as much time as I could on my side early on, but then hip pain and heartburn made laying on my side almost impossible!! I used lots of pillows and propped myself up to keep the pressure of the babies off my cervix, but not have so much reflux that I would get sick. I spent most of the last 7 weeks in a semi reclined position (including sleeping), and I've done fine. Both of my boys are head down and baby A's head has been right on my cervix. I'd check with your practitioner to make sure...but I did the best with what I had!!! Good luck!!
