    Hey ladies!

I posted a few times in the expecting folder, my wife had a few complications with her b/g twin pregnancy. She ended up making it to 36 weeks on the noise but had to take the babies via csection due to our daughter's low amniotic fluid. The babies were born at low birth weights (4.6 & 3.13lbs) but are perfectly healthy and awesome.

My wife and I feel so incredibly blesssed to have these twins but I have to say, its HARD! I know you've all been there so i wanted to ask your advice. My daughter has terrible gas, she cries all day and night - the only thing that will get her to sleep is mylicon but obviously we don't want to use it too much although the doctor said it was ok. We've also been giving her corn syrup for constipation per the doctor's orders. Just wondering if you had any other remedies for gas, we've tried a few different bottles too but she just gulps away. Let me know if you have any thoughts! Thanks so much!

Both of mine were colicky and it makes for a miserable day and night so I know how you feel!!! We tried the drops, 4 different formulas, car rides, over the knee, etc. Nothing worked until we switched to Nestle Good Start formula and the Dr Brown bottles. Colic was gone is 24 hours so I highly recommend trying these bottles. They are expensive but they worked for us (and many others on here) so it is definately worth a try!

    Good luck!

    Hi Mike,

Congratulations on the birht of your babies! Having a colicky baby is no fun and I feel for you. My 1st born was colicky and I remember how hard it was. We gave him the Mylicon drops before every feeding, it seemed to help a little. I know it seems like a lot, but my doctor was ok with it. Also is your wife breastfeeding? If she is, perhaps she should start eliminating foods from her diet. You could always try Gripe water as well and Dr Brown's bottles seemed to help.

What seemed to help my son a lot was constant movement. I always had to bounce or walk him. I know that this will be very hard to do because you have 2 babies to take care of. Good luck to you and your wife. It is a very hard situation but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, even though while you are going through it, it seems very very far away!

    Cheers,
Katie mom to Benjamin(3), Annie and Maya (9wks)

Congrats on the birth of your twins!

Ditto to what others have suggested, and - have you read/seen the video The Happiest Baby on the Block? Dr. Karp has some amazing techniques, and also makes a lot of interesting points about what life on the outside is like for newborns, which goes double for preemies, since a lot of the important neurological copng stuff hapens in the last few weeks of gestation.

. Swaddling seems to really help, as well as making sure the babies are kept vertical for AT LEAST 15 minutes after a feeding. My girls have reflux and if we put them down they are just miserable. To be honest, i usually end up holding/rocking them for at least half an hour minimum before i put them down. Remember, they are used to being inside where htey have constant movement.

Holding, rocking (if you don't have a glider i'd suggest looking on craigslist - i got both of mine, really good quality, for less than the price of one new one).

One of my girls is a gulper and when i feed her a bottle of breastmilk, the pedi suggested that we get the nipples w/no holes and simply use a pin to poke a small one. (ok, haven't done that yet but i do find that interrupting the feed to burp really helps.

Also, we run a cd w/rhythmic noise - we have on called BabySleep Sounds taht has a maternal heartbeat and a surf (and others).....these seem to help, espcially w/preemies who are even more used to the loud sounds in utero and less equipped to deal with the weird silence of the outside world.

    Good luck!
