I'm wondering how your kids school does their emergency closing notices.
My girls school we are signed up for email and phone calls notifications. Girls have no school this week. Sunday DH and I both got emails that the girls had no school Monday and Tuesday. I was at a friends house and they got a phone call. Tuesday we got a phone call DH got an email I don't remember if I got an email.
Girls have no school Thursday and Friday, I know because I checked the districts website after seeing it listed on patch.com. No call or email.

Wondering how other schools do it.

Our school usually has a one call system set up where they robocall everyone. This time thought, there was no power, so they couldn't activate the system. So we found out by a network of texts, emails, and facebook messages. They also realized they could use the rec one call system, so they started using that as well.

Paul's school has the robocall, too. It calls all the time, not just for closures- reminders about early release, pictures, etc.

It's also broadcast on our local news stations, published on the county website, and on the county Facebook page.

Robocall, texts, emails, and the local channels have a scrolling ticker that has all local closures as they happen. The texts and emails, and some robocalls are for non-closure type of things also; like we have a survey that has to be filled out, I received a call and an email, and my husband received a text. It's all in how you opt-in.

We get calls, texts, emails, news12, walk radio station, on the school website and on the school Facebook page. Are you guys out for the rest of the week? I heard rumors our district will be since most of the town is still without power.

Our county has a findoutfirst...email alert system. We can sign up for emails or texts when schools are closed. We also have a school channel on our local cable...but if you have something like direct TV you don't get this channel (like us). They don't do phone calls...way too many people to call. Or it's broadcasted on all the local news channels as well as the county website for the schools...also on radio stations and all the websites for the news channels.

We are out the rest of the week. It is just crazy how much of the Island is without power.

Our school district has the email notification phone calls that you opt in to. I was talking to one of the teachers yesterday and she said they used to do a call list, but now everyone is on the notification calls. The notification calls are a recording and also tells us stuff happening in the district.
There are 2 AM radio stations and 3 FM stations as well as ABC,. FOX and news12 (only works if you have cablevision) that are the official notification system. Patch.com listed it yesterday much earlier than any where else that the schools are closed today and tomorrow.

The reason I posted last night was 2 out of the 3 school closings we didn't the call, or the email.

My kids old school in Maryland had a robocall set up for closings.

This school.. honestly I have no clue. They haven't had to close for any emergencies soo.... uhmm... Maybe I should look into that?? It's not like they are gong to close for snow here! If I had a question, I would check the district website first.

We get a robocall and an email. I think the robocall is automatic, and I signed up for the email. It's also always on certain TV station websites ASAP.

we have a global connect system that calls the households in the district - the messages are for everything from school closings to reminders etc...

We get the automated calls for everything. No emails, and they don't keep their website or FB up to date so that's useless. The lack of communication drives me CRAZY!!

I just had to update about about my girls school closing notice. I just got a call that said
November 2, 2012 update: District Administration continues to monitor the impact of Hurricane Sandy on the District's operations. Please check the District's website on Sunday, November 4th after 3:00 pm for the status of the school district opening on Monday, November 5th.

As I was typing that they called my cell phone.
