Hey guys so I am trying to start packing hospital bags and have realized we dont have too many premie things for the boys.. I remember when my daughter was born she was 6.14 at full term and 20in long and newborn clothes were big on her so I assume the boys will probably be smaller.. kinda stressful trying to prepare for two new babies and having no idea what to expect ! Thanks for any advice u guys rock

My girls were 6.8 and 6.9 pounds they wore preemie clothes for two weeks. They were born at 38 weeks. If I were you, I would not invest in too many preemie outfits, maybe just a couple. I would either do onesies or gowns. At the hospital I had Easton - they would not let him wear clothes from home he had to wear their gowns until we were discharged. I got to dress him for his pictures the day before we left but had to change him right back to their gown. CONGRATULATIONS on your sweet boys!! Not much longer now!

My first set of twins were 6.9 and 5.15 so I'm not even buying premie outfits. I assume the boys will be the same or bigger.

My hospital lets you put them in whatever you want. I usually leave them in the white tshirts they give me until we leave. Less packing/laundry for me. I do pack extra socks because they're feet are usually cold even swaddled. I bought two pull over outfits in newborn size to bring them home in. They're a light sleep/play style. They came with hats. I'll just have to pack socks.

I didn't have my bag packed when my water broke with my oldest son, at 36 wks. He was 5lbs13oz, and newborn stuff was too big. So my motherinlaw went and bought a preemie outfit to bring him home in. All I had was newborn at my house.

So I brought one preemie outfit, and one newborn outfit to the hospital for my oldest daughter. My water broke the night before my scheduled c-section at 39 wks. She was 9lbs13oz and even the newborn outfit was too small!! Hubby had to go out and buy a 0-3 month outfit to bring her home in, and the nurses had to get the size 1 diapers from the PICU because newborn diapers were too small! LOL

SOOooooooo with the twins I brought a preemie outfit, a newborn outfit AND a 0-3 month outfit just.in.case. They were 6.4 and 7.2 lbs, so the newborn outfits fit just fine and we brought them home in those ;)

All this to say, there's no gaurantee's what they'll fit! I would bring at least a preemie outfit and newborn outfit for each because odds are pretty good one of those will fit!

I have 9 children (8 pregnancies)......I get dressed in a clean maternity outfit right before heading to the hospital, and wear flip flops (they double as my slippers). I also pack a house coat or robe for walking in the hallway or going to the nursery. And bras, and 1 pair of underwear. As far as my babies go, I do not pack anything for them. I plan on wearing the hospital gown and their mesh panties while I am there (all of my kids were c-sections)....I then wear the same maternity outfit that I wore to the hospital back home. I bring my personal hygiene items.

The special thing that we do is that my husband goes shopping after the birth for two outfits for each baby....an outfit for their hospital photo, and a coming home outfit. The only input that I have is what size to buy. Depending on the time of year, he might also bring a blanket to cover the carseat with when we leave the hospital.

Many people also bring items to the hospital for the baby/babies. That I suggest sending home everything that is not vital to your hospital stay (everything seems to multiply at the hospital, so to save several trips to the car with stuff when you are released, send as much as you can, as often as you can with your hubby).

I do not worry about a diaper bag, or ANYTHING for the babies....the hospital will send you home with the open pack of diapers, wipes, feeders, nipples, formula, and everything that your baby needs when they are released. They also usually give a diaper bag full of free stuff from a large formula company.

This is not the norm anymore as hospitals are moving away from the formula bag. I thought my hospital was weird as I wanted my bag (I like to use the bags for a diaper bag) but the trend is not to tell women breastfeeding is best yet fill their arms with formula.

I breastfed all of mine too! I had my daughter 22 months ago at a children's hospital and they gave me a diaper bag of formula, several bottles, several nipples, several syringes (to give meds with), diapers, wipes, etc).

Weird, huh? I got the bags with my boys (they'll be 3 in a few weeks) but 5 months ago with my daughter they had stopped with the bags completely- and she was born in a teaching hospital affiliated with an University. :pardon:

I actually take a diaper bag with stuff with me because #1 I don't want to rely on the hospital actually giving me what I needed. And #2 I get to bring my cute bag!!

But seriously, with my oldest son, he spent a week in the NICU. Then we got to "room in" with him for one night before bringing him home. By the time we got all the paperwork done the next day, we were down to just 2 diapers for the ride home. And they wouldn't bring us another pack. I was very glad to have my diaper bag with a few diapers in it, as well as some nicer wipes than the ones they gave us.

And with my second child, I had to beg for some formula from the nurses, it took a visit with the lactation consultant who saw how starving she was, and how perfectly i was nursing, how often I was nursing and how bleeding my nipples were, for me to get some formula for Kaelyn. With the twins, every shift change the new nurse would bring another little case of premixed formula for them. Same hospital, some of the SAME nurses, just the difference in how they treated singletons and twins.

There was just an article last week in Fox News about the Major of NY and breast feeding. It's not in all areas but a lot are moving towards pushing breast feeding and not the formula. I have no issue as long as there aren't starving babies and upset mommies. I'm choosing the formula feed my twins because it's what works for me and I don't expect an issue getting formula. I'm in KY and we take a while to catch up lol But, I expect that I won't be getting all the extras (formula bag with coupons, samples, etc...) like I did with past babies.
