bassinets vs. pack-n-plays

Anyone choose two bassinets over a pack-n-play? I have a nice pack-n-play with the bassinet. It's got an attachable changer to use when not using the bassinet part. Only problem is it's at a slope to keep baby upright. It's great for one baby but not so much two. It's possible but not ideal. I'm debating whether to use it again or spring for a couple cheaper bassinets. I'll price a few used ones as well. Two bassinets wouldn't take up anymore room than a pack-n-play. The twins are going to have a crib in the baby room. They'll have to share with my soon-to-be 2yr old twins. But, I'll want them in our room during the night for sure.

Bassinets you can't use for long, whereas pnp's you can use a lot longer. My boys are 4.5 and my daughter three, and I'm still using them! My daughter uses it at my mil's house(although she's about done with it), and I have one that I use for the little girl I babysit.

Oh, and I never used the changing table portion of the pnp. I just changed the kids on the bed in my room. I had those waterproof pads from the hospital.

The changer doesn't mean a lot since I have a nice changing table set up on the wall. It's from IKEA. I have the nice p-n-p and I wouldn't get rid of it. I would keep it for when he go to other people's houses. I'm going to think about it. I might have a little extra cash come in and if I do that will help with the decision.

We had bassinets that rocked, which was really nice because I could rock one of the babies with my foot while I held or fed the other one. Also, it was nice being able to move them with the rolling wheels.

The rolling wheels are a selling point! I'm think I'm leaning more and more towards getting them. It all depends on cash.

Definitely check on craigslist, or local consignment shops if you have ones that are convenient.

We have couple of consignment shops around here. I'll check there first for sure. I had a really nice one with my oldest daughter I bought used and it was very nice. I wish I still had it.

Have you thought about a mini/porta crib? They are only slightly smaller than a pack n play and much bigger than a bassinet, and many come with wheels. I have two, both have wheels, they come apart for easy storage and my girlies still fit in one of them together (not for much longer though :() They are on a real, comfortable mattress, not a horrible pnp one. Mine has adjustable levels for the mattress too. I'm really happy I went with a portacrib, I feel like I got the best of all worlds.

We used the pack-n-play with a bassinet. I just wasn't about to spend the money on two bassinets when we only used the pack-n-play in the living room anyway. The girls took their naps and slept in their cribs (never in our rooms) so bassinets weren't necessary for us and the pack-n-play worked just fine for us at the time. We used our pack-n-play for a long time after they out grew the bassinet, so well worth the money I spent on it.

Thinking about it today and I'm going with a mini crib from ikea for our room. I doubt I'll roll bassinets into the other rooms. I'd probably just put them in bouncers. I want the babies in our room until they're sleeping fairly well through the night before I put them with the other twins. I'll be able to use the mini crib even for one if I need to split them up because of illness.
