Hey ya'll! I'm 16 weeks today with di/di twins. Currently due September 7, 2012 however both of my doctors have said that i'll deliever a month early.

We found out on Monday that baby "b" is a boy (YAY!), we're hoping that baby "a" is a girl, hopefully we'll be able to find out on the 4th when I have my OB follow up or on the 6th with my Maternal Fetal med doctor. We are both so excited! We've always wanted children but honestly werent planning this pregnancy at all, although it's truly a blessing and we could not be happier. It's funny though b/c neither of us have twins in our family. After I found out I was pregnant I didn't have my first OB appt for 3 weeks, my stomach seemed bigger than it should have been and I was joking that I thought it was multiples, little did I know I actually was carrying twins. At my first appt I thought Marshall and my doctor were going to faint. I was so shocked and then crying when we heard the heart beats of the babies. Since then the highlight of my appts has been the ultrasounds and hearing the heartbeats and seeing the babies grow.

I have to admit, while I'm sure it's overwheleming trying to figure out everything that is needed for one baby, trying to go through everything that will be needed for twins just seems insurmountable at times. That's part of the reason I joined. None of my friends are parents of twins and things already seem so different from what is needed with a singleton to multiples.

So needless to say ANY advice is greatly appreciated it. I've read a few books but I'd like to talk to ya'll about what you're experiencing being pregnant or moms of twins.

Thanks ya'll! Have a great day!

    ~Alex

Welcome! You came to a good place for support and answers. We were in the same boat, not really planning on being pregnant and blammo! Two! It all works out and you'll totally get the hang of it.

There are threads about strollers, what items you need two of, what to expect and lots of answers for any questions you might have. :)

    Congratulations Alex! :welcome: to TS!
My first (and last) pregnancy was the twins and I can remember thinking "oh my, what do we do now!" TS was a huge resource for me those early days. One of the books I loved when I was pregnant was by Ann Douglas "The Mother of all Pregnancy Books", even though it did specifically deal with twins (she did cover multiple pregnancies) but I found her to be the most reassuring and helpful. I got a lot of what I thought I would need from this site and from my friends who had children, even though they did not have twins. I wish you all the best!

Welcome and congrats!! I remember my doctor telling me I'd deliver 4-8 weeks early too.. boy did I prove her wrong! Not all twins are born early so don't worry too much. ;)

Thanks for the responses! I spent hours on the site last night and I'm sure I'll be spending MUCH more time here.

It truly is an exciting time. I have, luckily, seemed to have gotten through the morning (all day actually) sickness, and finally getting my energy back. Everyone says, enjoy the honeymoon period b/c 3rd trimester is even worse .... but I know in the end everything will be worth it. In the 1st trimester there were times that I was just too exhausted to really do anything, Marshall would come home from work and I'd just start crying b/c I wasn't able to get anything done and he had been working all day and had to do it ... luckily he is a wonderful man and always told me, I'm doing plenty right now carrying the babies, so he would take on all the household duties.

I think that the exhaustion was also added to b/c of a rare connective tissue disease that I have. The doctors have honestly always been scared about me getting pregnant and carrying to term. The first 12 weeks was the scariest for me due to fear of a miscarriage. My mom had 5, unfortuantely. But I honestly seemed to have made it through the first trimester without a problem. The doctors are actually amazed at how well my body is handling the pregnancy, thus far I haven't been put on bed rest, but I know it's coming. I'm sure my OB has gotten tired of me calling at every issue I've had, random pains, blood pressure dropping, heart rate going crazy, etc. But I've always wanted children and since I was 15 and I was diagnosed with the EDS they told me I'd never be able to get pregnant and carry to term, so I think I've been a bit more hypersensitive to the changes my body has gone through luckily my OB is extremely understanding and has been there to answer every question and ease my fears. This truly has been a dream come true on both mine and Marshall's part.

Everything really became real to me when I had my first MFM appt and they did an extensive ultrasound and we got to really see the babies and see them moving, baby A is SUPER active, baby B is pretty relaxed, we laughed and said they're certainly just like us --- marshall is very relaxed and I'm a pretty active/busy person. I can't wait till the next ultrasound to see them again! It honestly is amazing with technology how there is a bond that you can make with your children when they're still in the womb b/c you can see them, the way they act, their features, etc, just makes us feel closer to them I guess.

And itsnancycozzi, I understand the first and only pregnancy. Marshall is 10 years my senior, both of us had been married previously and neither of us had children within those marriages, although we always wanted them, and honestly kind of feel even more blessed that it did only happen with us, like it was meant to be. We've obviously talked about children and we only wanted 2, everyone laughed when we found out it was twins and said that we were both making up for lost time. Anyway, he has talked about getting snipped after the babies are born. I guess there is a part of me that even though this pregnancy thus far is going well I'm scared to tempting fate with another pregnancy, and I'm not getting any younger so my risks get higher as I get older regardless of the EDS or not. It's a hard decision to make though, and I guess one we'll fully make when the babies are born.

Well I'm going to go read some more! Thanks again for the encouragement!

Do you know what type she has? It's rare to find anyone that has the EDS. I've been on the EDS forums before, but honestly I hate to say it, they're depressing. My docs gave me such a grim outlook when I was diagnosed and years after that and thus far I've proven them wrong on every aspect and I guess I pride myself in that, I live my life to the fullest and have a wonderful life. Unfortunately many that have it only listen to the doctors and don't challenge the doctors nor themselves, and well quite frankly it leads to severe depression. I can say I went through it after I was diagnosed and it was worse when I was in college, but something happened in my life and I decided that I wasn't going to let the EDS dictate how I was going to live my life and I would fight, and honestly I'm proud of myself!

Are you sure you're not her? She is one of the most vibrant, uplifting souls I've ever met.

I think hers is more joints than skin? I'm not sure, but I believe both boys have it as well.

Haha! Well I do live in Florida, but Northwest Florida! Honestly vibrant is the only way you can be unless you just want to sit around and feel sorry for yourself all the time. The way I look at it is, EVERYONE has issues in their lives that can hold them back, it's what you make of those issues that gives you the life that you have. When I was first diagnosed they thought I had the vascular type, which is the worst of them all, life expectancy is 40 years of age, typically in a wheelchair by the age of 30, all sorts of organ issues and whatnot, luckily they were able to do a collagen test and determine that was not the type that I had, I have the classic type which mainly just affects my joints with hypermobility and dislocations and unfortuantley the flare ups with my joints, although (knock on wood) I haven't had a flare up in a couple of years.

There has always been a part of me that has worried about passing it on to my children, and I've gone back and forth regarding having children, but the way I've started lookin at it is, while I'd hate to see my children go through what I went through, at least I would know from the beginning what they have and how to handle it, so I might be able to stop some of the things from happening or happening too soon like it did with me. The docs said they can do an amnio to see if the twins have it or not, but honestly I'm not sure I want to risk it b/c it's not going to change a darn thing.

How old are her boys? Have they had any complications thus far? Did she have any complications b/c of the EDS during pregnancy?

I just moved to NW Florida, literally! We are still unpacking. Got down here last Friday and had our household goods delivered Monday.

I always forget that base. Is DH in the air force? I think its closer to 1.5 hours away. Its a good area, not to far away from everything

My husband is in the Marines. He was in Pensacola in January and did our house hunting then, he told me it was 45 minutes to an hour. We are like 2 minutes from I-10 so I think that helps. Also he drives like a maniac..

Oh okay. ... If you take interstate I think it is about that far, taking 98 it'll certainly tack on time to your commute.
