The American Academy of Pediatrics released an updated statement on breastfeeding that moves to more fully support exclusive breastfeeding the first six months. Basically the big change is stating " infant nutrition should be considered a public health issue and not only a lifestyle choice" which is much stronger worded than they have previously.

I found this interesting and thought those of you who have felt your pediatricians aren't fully behind breastfeeding might want to see. Perhaps a change will be coming amongst pediatricians?

I think this is a great step for the US - by defining it officially as a public health issue it also means that there's some pressure now on society, business & government to support & protect the BFing relationship. Maybe you guys'll start getting decent mat leaves! ;)

If maternity leave didn't totally suck here I was originally going to go back to work... But since I wasn't sure that I could juggle ebf and work I felt the choice to stay home really wasnt much of a choice (for me).

I doubt it...say what you will about Bill Clinton but at least we get 12 weeks!
